There may be an issue specific to the 256mb versions, but I can tell you on the card in my sig which is now in my daughter's machine HL2 runs very well, even @ quite attractive settings. If you're talking about stuttering in the audio you may want to try the pci latency tool which ca be found here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=951 try setting all devices that already have any setting except zero to the same timing. I'd try 64 first. Once you set all the new latencies you'll have to go into the settings menu on top, save your new settings and check apply on startup. You have nothing to lose as this will not hurt anything and is easy to undo.

.NET 2.0 BETA is pretty stable, so you could try that out without thinking that it might screw your PC later on. I went back to the 4.12 OMega's because CS:S started freezing. With the 4.12 Omega the game runs flawlessly. I also noticed a bit of texture corruption on Far Cry after spending some time with the 5.1 driver.

I always have my Windows XP running in top form and all the mobo drivers are up to date too.

*EDIT* Game locks-up with the 4.12 Omega's too. I believe that this has soemthing to do with CS:S and not the video card drivers too. However I don't have anymore texture corruption in Far Cry with the 4.12 Omega.

YOUR absolutely right. I have the same problem it just hangs right before desktop.

Im very disappointed with ATI drivers. Everything past 4.9 has been horrible. This has been the final straw for me, Im going back to Nvidia.

I found out what the problem was. There was a conflict with my ati remote wonder controlller...

I just had to re-install it and everything was peachy.

Never had to do anything like that b4, but all is good now

Short answer = thats when they were compiled and they go though all different tests before they are released to the public which obviously delays their release by around a month

The answer by spyre.

Plus ati actually work quite a bit in front of what we get.5.1's were recently released so any bug fixes reported now probably not be seen in the drivers untill perhaps 5.3 or the 5.4's.

Thumbs Down!

The 5.1's are VERY unstable! I also experience a lot of system freezes, and corruption. My dad's system also has the same problem with these drivers. We both use the same motherboard and setup.

I have a Dual P3 system, using an ABIT VP6 Motherboard with replaced Caps.

Switching to Omega's to see if they are more stable.

I am using a VisionTek 9600XT 256MB video card.

i got a little performance gain over 4.12 drivers, saw it on HL2 Doom3, didnt test more, seems very low of a performance gain, but hey im surprise they didnt mention this on the release notes, of course is not the normal 4-5% improvement, but is worth noticing

Only problem I had was Flatout would pop back to desktop on me after 3 or 4 races. It never did that before. I'll probably go back to the 4.12's if I continue having that issue.

My pc starts normally, but if I wanna go to the internet, my pc is not responding for some minutes, I can open start or maps, but not programs and this is the cause of the latest catalysts
I use the package with CCC, why not, it is the future and wanna taste it, but it is odd my hangs for a couple of minutes when it boots
It is a fresh installation of WinXP SP2 (slipstreamed cd) and .net 1.1

I agree. Sounds like a foundational system issue or issues to me.

well i just upgraded my GFX from 9800PRO to X800PCI-Express

and no omega version works not the 4.12 not these new ones either

it is a PowerColor X800PCI-E so maybe the card is too new i dunno

but no omega drivers work for me the CAt 5.1 does though so i canīt figure wat the heck is wrong.

but what else yeah i had to buy a new Mainboard and PSU sincse the olda ones broke.

so i have a ASUS P4PGD1 it is a S478 with Inrtel 915chipset and PCI-E 16x so it is kinda cool and it is in "benchmarks " a real booster.

New card results

3dmark series:
01 18060 somewhat less than before why beats me
03 8818 something like that
05 4320 something
Aquamrak though strange behavior 54+FPS

eralier results
01 18700+
03 6422
05 2950
aquamark3 48fps this on a 9800PRO 398/351 gigacube bios

so the "ordinary" X800PCI-E is alot faster than my 9800PRO was yeah i never OC anything so al is stock speed cpu intel P4 3000MHZ 800MHZ FSB

but how come no omega drivers work for me that is annoying but i am gonna game test this new card tomrorow FC D3 HL2 +few others

well i checked at ASUS site but i guess the bios i have is teh onlyone to this board maybe it is because it hasenīt ben around too long
and if i understood things right the X800PCI-E is also pretty new o the market or am i totally wrong?

well any ways tryed Far Cry last night so i cranked everything to the hifīghest in the CP and in FC COnfig and strarted the rebellion level

this is at full FSAA 6X and 16X and i get between 22-42FPS i never got that high on my 9800PRO

so it is a rather fast card for not that much money either

They seem to work pretty well here. I did notice some shimmering in Battle for middle earth on buildings and structures. Im not sure if thats related to geometry instancing though as I had that enabled. Ill have to play around with it a bit more and attempt to fix it. Other than that everything else seems great and CCC is much more responsive than previous builds (Although I also gave the .NET 2.0 beta a shot as well to see if itd speed things up a bit). Looking foward to the next release!
