Default Post Radeon 9000 problems

I just got a sapphire radeon 9000 and everytime I install the drivers, when my computer restarts, all i get is a black screen with a mouse pointer in the middle. This problem occurs even with the drivers from the manufacturer's cd. What should i do???

Could you provide details of the system?
What video card was installed previously?

I have a sapphire radeon 9000, soyo dragon s4 motherboard, p4 1.8ghz, 512 ram, 120gb wd hd, windows xp pro.

Let me try and describe the problem more:
The computer I have is totally new, except for the hard drive which I took out of my old computer. When windows starts, it detects a "vga controller". I tell the new hardware wizard to search for a driver, and it can't find any. So I install the plutonium 8.1 drivers using the new hardware wizard. After installing them, my computer then recognizes the video card as a "radeon 9000". My computer tells me to restart and I do. Right after the mobo startup screen, there is a vertical white/red line in the middle of my screen. Then there is the regular windows start up screen. After about 20 seconds the screen goes black and then the mouse pointer appears in the middle. My keyboard and mouse do not work at this point, causing me to restart. I have to revert back to before i installed the video card drivers for windows to come up again.
I have tried installing the drivers in safe mode and the same thing happens. I have tried installing the drivers that came with the card and the same thing happens.

Can anyone help me??
Thanks.

Default Post Ok, try this...

Install the drivers in safe-mode, but before you reboot type "msconfig" in the "run" box and hit the "start-up" tab. UN-check any that reference ATI, THEN let it reboot. It might be the smart-gart thingy or fast-writes screwing with ya. If you can disable fast-writes in your bios do that too.

Hi,

I had the same problem with a Connect3D Radeon 9000 Pro card. After trying almost everything I returned the card and got another one, which works like a charm...

So it's possible that it's the card thats bad.

regards
