oh dammit, i'm so confused at this point. i've downloaded the drivers for my radeon 7200 from ati's website, and i saw no different between the display of the new card and that of my onboard card, which utterly sucks. the guy that *gave* me the card told me that i should probably look for third-party drivers...but, from looking at the specs on the plutonium driver and comparing them to those of ati's official driver, i didn't notice much of a difference. i actually thought that they were the same. at this point, i'm willing to try everything, therefore i'm gonna install them. is there anything special that i'm NOT doing? or is it just that the 7200 sucks that bad?
if it really sucks that bad, are there any pci video cards that i should be looking out for to replace this one (i say pci because i don't have an agp slot on my stupid minitower )?

We are willing to help you but you ought to describe your problem in details, so that you can resolve it more efficiently.
Your card isn't build by ATI, you may want to try the Powered By ATi section on their website.

ahh, now that's the most sense anyone has made during this whole ordeal i've been going through. my whole problem, pretty much is choppy video, no matter what card i use. i have tried almost every driver i've seen that supports the radeon 7200, and i get the same results: choppy video...almost seems like the video slows to frame-by-frame for for a second or two...for example: i was playing fifa2003 a couple hours ago and the intro video was going so slow that it couldn't even keep up with the music.
aside from that, my normal desktop usage has suffered from drastic slowdown. i can get a lamborghini from zero-to-sixty in the time that it takes for me to get a menu after i right click on my desktop... for a long time i was assuming that the problem was just a trade-off for good gaming, until i installed the 6193 drivers and that problem went away. i've still got the thing with fifa2003 though...it's just slow. i was wondering if the drivers were correct and my problem was in the configuration of the tabs in display properties...?

Did you get rid of older video drivers?
If not, i strongly recommend a format, or a methodic cleanup. That may be the problem, because when i read your description of the problem, it sounds like your drivers install, recognise the 7200, But lacks the hardware acceleration. By the way, ATI 2d is the sharpest out there. (when working problem free) On this last note, hope you get to solve your problems.

I agree with the last poster, the first thing I'd try if I were you is a complete clean reinstall of your video drivers. There could be some nasty trace left over from either older ATI drivers or your onboard card's drivers coming back to haunt you.

okay, i have no idea where to start, considering that i have never had to uninstall drivers. i don't even know where they go when they're installed.

get some memory dude!! My mobile phone wont ring for less than that and most games will stick for that spec. Get a 516mb upgrade and you will be fine. I am suprised nobody else in the forum noticed that

maybe... if it's some super slow SDRAM or if there's massive HD usage when a menu is clicked
