Quality drop for performance increase in latest omega?
Quality Trade-Off for performance?!?!?!
I registered just so i could post this message, since apparantly no one has noticed the reason for the large gain in benchmarks and FPS, so please pay attention carefully, and look for this yourself if you'd like. I don't feel like re-explaining the whole thing, so i'll copy and paste my entry from the steam forums. Did anyone else notice after installing the new omega drivers that in all of the source games, atleast CS:S and HL2, there is an extremely visible layer of texture filtering, which is very close in distance, which creates a mild white cloudiness? It almost seems like the new drivers force billinear filtering, no matter how high your AF is set to. You can really notice it in CSS maps like aztec, watch the way the grass changes, and you can definitely see the 3 filtering lines.... the cloudiness is very apparant when walking towards and away from the wooden doors. It appears almost as if there is a wall of very very light fog on the walls. I wonder if this is how they got the drastic fps increase in these games? kind of urks me... Just wondering if Omega took drastic quality hitting measures just to gain performance? I could have done this in my Quality settings as opposed to a modified driver. http://www.steampowered.com/forums/s...91#post1763991 here is the link to the steam forum |

actually the FPS gain was because the driver is based on catalyst 4.12beta driver, which is the one that made the FPS raising on HL2, so no blaming on omegas for making it faster (actually i havent seen any optimizations for performance on Omega's part) anyway, are u sure the AF level on ur card is set to quality instead of performance?

It is set to Application Preference, and set to 16x in HL2 and CSS, looks like billinear.

Just tried forcing 8x AF in vid settings.... didnt make any difference, still 3 noticable filtering lines like its billinear.. definitely a driver problem.

I noticed some odd lines in 2.5.97 aswell, which were not there in 2.5.90 - maybe this is why. I Normally run CS:S with 4xAA and 8xAF and I never noticed those lines till these lastest Omegas. They're kinda annoying :/

ohh and yeah, setting it to quality resets to performance, so it gets faster, but lossing great quality as it gets using bilinear instead of trilinear filtering for the anisotropic, and doesnt worth it ![]() ohh, and besides "forced" always dropped my performance a little compared to quality, and couldnt see any real difference until now -.- anyway hoping here that omega fixes this new bug caused by the fixed bug

yeah i have the exact same problem...
these omega's do give a like a 10+fps boost over the regular catalyst 4.12 beta's.... obviously this is cos AF isnt working with these omega's went back to catalyst 4.12 betas and everything is peachy. i think the omega guy needs to take a break. Typo when naming the driver and problems with AF....

Go to ur console and type GL_TEXTUREMODE and press enter to see what it's set at.
If it's not set at "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR", then set it at that and see if that fixes it ![]() So, GL_TEXTUREMODE "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR"
