radeon 9700 mobile: 1156x864 higher probs...
I got the DELLinspiron9100 with radeon9700-128mb. Every time i use another driver than the one released by DELL (which happens every 2 months only...) i got following problem:
In gaming Resolutions higher than 1024x768 the screen is not complete! IE from a Game-Resolution set to 1280x1024 you can only see a part (1024x768). Display adjustment as "fit screen to..." have no effects on this!
Any suggestions?! Please!!!

Hi!
I've got the same laptop as you, and due to the lack of support from Dell official drivers, I'm with omegadrivers since I bought mine.
I've got my desktop at 1280x800, and also I'm playing at this resolution on many games, without any trouble. Maybe above 1024 only 16:10 aspect ratio resolutions are allowed.
Try changing the monitor setup, (desktop properties, config, left click over the nº1 display (the laptop screen), and change the config there).
Good Luck!

Ok!. Thx for sharing the info for us, laptop users . I9100 is indeed a monster laptop. For video, I've always been with Omegadrivers. Untill now, they haven't failed me, and even with my old Mobility Radeon 9000 i got better framerates than Dell drivers, or any other 3rt party drivers, (DNAs, NGO, etc...). Also, Dell support suxx, as they only release official updated drivers two times a year or so... at most.

Thats the point, DELLs driver-support is awful!
I think the BIOS sucks! You can take any important changes... and where to find a modded BIOS... only god knows!
I would very much like to setup the hole system anew... but have no idea, from where to get all the driverstuff from...
Do you know?!
Do you have a MR9000?!

Hi.
I had a mr9000 on my previous dell laptop, Inspiron 8200.
A few months ago I got a Inspiron 9100 with a MR 9700, and I've just intalled a few weeks ago a brand new MR9800
The BIOS updates are few, but a MUST for every laptop user. Don't try to get hacked BIOS upgrades. Messing with BIOS settings (both system BIOS and video card BIOS) could damage badly your lappy. Also, staying up to date here is essential, as some hight risk bugs may be fixed from time to time
Regards
L.

How did you manage, that DELL exchanged your MR9700 to a MR9800!!!
Did you do it all by yourself?!
How much did it cost....?
I want to update my Gracard to a MobileX800 next year.........
Tell me, tell me, .....

Greetings.
If you are from the USA, check http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/ProductDetail.aspx?sku=XPSVID&Page=DellItemsProduc tListing.aspx&spagenum=2&items_per_page=25&orderby =&sortdirection=&image_flag=True&show_summary=True &category_id=&brandid=&mnfsku=&SearchType=&Pageb4S earch=&ModelSelection=166537&iCompatid=&selectiont ypeids=&l=en&c=us&cs=19&SubmitSearch=&servicetag=& reset=False&k=&mnf=&prst=&prEnd=&InStock=&refurbis hed=&fe==
As I'm from Spain, where the MR9800 part is not yet available, I got mine using EBAY. I payed around 350$, including P&P.
The installation procedure is very easy, just follow Dell's service manuals with care. Just a screwdriver and a bit of luck (just kidding, really, it is almost as easy as adding a PCI card to a desktop PC).
Anyway, Dell Insp9100 is based on AGP motherboard, and Mobility Radeon X800 is supposed to be available only to PCIexpress motherboards, so we won't be able to upgrade our GFX card again (that's what I read at Dell forums)...
Remember that Ati MR9800 is indeed based on the desktop X800 architecture, not in the old desktop Radeon 9800 card. Believe me when I say it is WAY faster than the MR9700.

I´ve the same problems like clEaver with some resolutions (etc. 1280x960 and other) under WinXP on my Clevo 410V (15´, ATI 9600, Omega-Driver). I use as second OS a Linux-distribution. Here can I create every resolution I want without any limititions.
Therefore i can say, that the reasons for this problems isn´t only to see by the TFT´s. I think that little changes at the driver settings in the registry can perhaps solve this problem. Unfortunately the TFT´s have no communication with the driver via DDC, so you can`t disable the limititions of the EDID-Entry of the TFT in the CP of the ATI-Driver. With one of the original Clevo-ATI-driver (with limited resolution support) i got the 1280x960 res in a game (Virtua Tennis) to work without the cuts on the sides of the screen. And this driver hasn´t support for this resolution. With the Omega-Drivers i get only a virtual screen with 1152x864 if i choose the 1280x960 res.
If there are restrictions from the TFT we need commands for the driver who ignore this. This will function in Linux, why not in windows too?
