Radeon IGP 345M integrated into HP Pavilion 5570us Issues
I am running a hp pavilion ze5570us laptop with the HP factory modded Radeon IGP 345M drivers (pic's of hp's most current ATI drivers available from their support website and the specific details for what is currently installed on my HP laptop). I also currently have an additional larger 19” Dell LCD Monitor hooked up to the laptop to provide two monitor support.
Yesterday I installed the trial version of UltraMon software in order to realize the benefits of its enhanced multi-monitor support (and I really like its features…that is if I can get it to work correctly). The laptop is now (since installing the UltraMon software) randomly rebooting itself (4 times within last 2 days)… which in turn has caused me some serious problems with corrupting my TradeStation Trading Platform. When my system (OS - XP Pro SP2) restarts and reports its error for crashing to big brother "Microsoft" it identifies the ATI stuff as being the culprit (see below a copy of the Microsoft Error Report that I get after the laptop reboots subsequent to this random crashing). Also note that a few months ago I tried a trial version of the PowerStrip software and it too caused my laptop to crash with similar behavior (I uninstalled it and never put it back on…and the laptop hadn’t crashed since). So at this point I think that the ATI device driver is likely the source of these issues. Note that the crash occurred with PowerStrip under service pack 1 for XP Pro and now again under Service Pack 2 with UltraMon…so at this point I am more inclined to think it’s the device driver not the OS or the “UltraMon or PowerStrip” specialty applications that need to be updated or fixed. Today I spent several hours reading thru the threads on DriverHeaven’s forum in an attempt to try and get a handle on how to fix this problem. I also downloaded the Patje's Mobility Modding program, but have to admit that I am still somewhat confused as to what version of the ATI driver software drivers and other applications that I should download and what exacty I should do with these utility programs to correctly build a more current driver that will work without errors on my HP 5000 Series Pavilion Laptop. I read one post on another forum that said modded drivers for hp laptops will not function correctly or possible cause demage to your laptop, however I also read some post that stated to the contrary…therefore I am confused and thought I would create this posting in an attempt to try and gain some knowledgeable insight…that is before I screwed my system even further up…LOL! On another note I have also ordered a Village Tronic VT BOOK “pcmcia vga card” and its companion the newly released Dual Head add on that provides two monitor support out of this same pcmcia card….as well as 2 more 19” Dell LCD Monitors to further enhance/complicate this laptop setup (so soon I will be running a 4 Monitor setup... including the existing laptops 15” screen), therefore if you can think of anything else that I might need to know in order to help get this all working correctly before I get this new stuff in, please let me know. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Error caused by ATI® Technologies, Inc: No specific solution found Problem Description: An unknown error occurred in the ATI Graphics Driver created by ATI® Technologies, Inc. If you were not using the product when it crashed, it is possible the application/driver is automatically started. The driver or application may cause problems even if you are not currently using ATI Graphics Driver. Problem Resolution: Microsoft is currently not aware of a specific solution for the problem that you reported. Below are a list of recommendations to take which may help prevent the problem from reoccurring.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Thanks Very Much for any Help anyone can Throw my Way! Last edited by atomant; Nov 18, 2004 at 12:42 AM. |

Hmm... Well you could try to install the latest Catalyst 4.11 through Mobility Modder (I'm not sure if it works through that though) OR you can install it manually through Device Manager and then install the CP manually as well.
I have the IGP345 as well for my Laptop, but I haven't got Ultramon installed on it. P.S - Welcome to DH.

benchmarking...
well something weird happened... i installed the 4.12s after i completely formated my laptop ( was about time...) and when i started 3dmark01 i couldnt get the "hardware and software T&L" option anymore ( that was what i used before and got a nearly 3900 points), i only got the "software T&L". so my benchmark was about 1500. everything worked fine though, games, applications, everything. now i've put the new omegas 2.5.97 and i still dont get that damn option but i did get an extra 200 points. so i dont have anything to compare my results with. HL2 runs even nicer now though, hehe
if you were to do the same benchmark we could compare results, that would be very helpful. all test i did were at 640x480 32-bit, no AA, double frame buffer, compressed textures, 24-bit Z-buffer and with D3D software T&L ( cause its the only one i get). see my signature for my specs 3dmark01 can be dl from www.madonion.com hope to hear from you Whatsupdoc

Yikes
Yeah, the other night when I posted my reply..I went out to Omega's site and downloaded Radeon Omega Drivers 2.5.97 (Catalyst 4.12 Beta) and installed. Everything seems to be running good. I have one of my three external Dell 19"LCD's hooked up to the external 15pin analog VGA running the new Catalyst drivers with the monitor physically rotated to portrait mode and software rotation at the maximum resolution and hz for the monitor and its all good. I am waiting for the folks at VillageTronic.com to get back with me on the software drivers I need to get their VTBook/Dual Head solution work as advertised…so that I can in turn drive the other two external 19” LCD’s also in portrait mode and at same maximum resolution with good performance like the HP OEM ATI Radeon IGP 345 is now doing. I hope it will work as VillageTronic claims their PCMCIA (pci bus) 32mb card can do. If it doesn’t I will be looking to probably custom integrate a set of the latest generation Prescott Intel CPU’s along with a bang for the buck capable motherboard and then water cool it all. I am not sure on the video card solution….I would probably want to go all DVI since Dells can do either analog or digitial and then buy another Dell 19” and drive 4 monitors total. Water cooling for the video cards would probably also be in order. Any feedback from the testing community would be appreciated. I am looking for performance.
