tv-out resolution

TV-out resolution when using composite output automatically sets itself to 1024x768 when the primary monitor is set to a resolution of 1024x768 or greater. however, 800x600 gives a much better quality picture on my tv.

there is no option in the interface (latest catalyst drivers, radeon 8500 card) to change the resolution, is there a reg key that will do the trick?
