What drivers for my Mobility Radeon 9700 Pro?

Hi, I have old drivers on my laptop, I think 4.4 or so. So I'm trying to get new drivers but when I go to ATI's official website it says that they dont offer download of drivers for laptops and they say I have to go to my manufacturer site, so I go to my manufacturer's site and they give me a link back to ATI.

None of them want to give me new drivers...

I have seen omegadrivers and it says it supports every ATI card ever but I don't know if I want to put unnoficial drivers on my PC. If I put omegadrivers in my laptop will it be as easy to install as official drivers? I dont want to tweak around with stuff, I'm not an OC'er or anything I just want the damn 4.9 drivers on my laptop

Is omegadrivers my only way?

goto your manufacture of the laptop. download from their. if their to old complain to them that u want new ones, and that their giving u bad support and your complaining. (ati cannot make new drivers for your laptop, cause of the problems that can arrise, tho the manufacture has to make them).

also try omega drivers.... if at all u dont succede, try pajee's mobility modder or whatever from the front page of driverheaven.

so thats 3 options.

What kind of problems can arise from ATI making drivers for mobility chips?

On the ATI site they give me some lame excuse about the problem being laptop screens which is all BS. Nvidia apparently has drivers for their laptop chips, last time I ever get an ATI chip.

And what am I gonna tell my manufacturer? They just slapped the parts in, they have no responsibility in keeping up with someone else's drivers. And ATI shouldn't be so pathetic as to actually expect other people to do their work for them.

I guess I have no choice, I'm gonna try the Omegadrivers... **** you ATI.

hrm... mabe u should read the interview that driverheaven did with them, i will let u search it, since u seem capable in doing so... other than that, it came up recently here:
ATI can calm our fears

Actually, I have a question on that note - it might be really stupid, but I've never quite understood why Mobility users need to find workarounds to use regular Catalyst drivers, such as the Mobility Modder Patje created - which kicks ass, as you might know - And ya... I was just wondering, for the ease of things, why you guys haven't made an unsupported mobility driver for us laptop users just to avoid that second step? OEM sites are always like, 1-4 releases behind. lol

No question is stupid man....

I have been asked that many many many times. In fact if you do a search on some of DriverHeaven interviews with me (linked from the main page), you will see that this question was also asked by Zardon and others in the community.

I will let you go on a bit of a hunt and see the actual interview and that question.

But the summary version is:
I wish we could release laptop drivers. We simply arent allowed to by our customers right now. This is because each laptop has different configuration and right now it is impossible to have one single generic driver that works perfectly on all laptops. My advice to you is simple, keep using Patje's tool. It rocks!
