Battlefield Vietnam/Unreal Tournament
Ive read several posts about the 9800 pro and its issues with Battlefield Vietnam and Unreal Tournament. But Ive never read any real resolution to these problems. Most of the posts I read ended in about May. I was wondering if a real fix ever showed up? Ive tried this server and PlanetBattlefied to see if there were any answers.
I am locking up or crashing to desktop about every twenty minutes during online play on Battlefield Vietnam. I dont think its a cooling issue because I have an aftermarked heat sink and fan on my video card (Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer.) I dont get any crashes with other games, though I did buy a Thermalright Heatsink just in case it was my processor.
System Specs:
P4 2.8
1 Gig Corsair MMX 3200 memory
Radeon OEM 9800 Pro 128. Arctic Cooling's VGA Silencer Heat sink and fan. Omega Drivers
Abit IC7-G Max II Motherboard
2 36 gig Raptors in a Raid 0 Array
PC Power and Cooliing Turbo 510 Delux Power supply.
My System Idles at 28 C
Processor 47 C
During gaming processor can get between 60-65 C but I still have yet to install my Thermalright Heatsink. I almost positive this isnt a cooling issue because I took the side off my computer to get it to run cooler and it did dramitically decrease the temps but didnt cure the problem.
Thanks again for any advice.

could be a bios thing.. check the settings in the bios, lower or rise the agp apriture size, and chieck other settings, lower your agp to 4x, and try other things like that. try driver cleaner to see if it helps.

I agree with MindlessOath it sounds like a bios setting. The first thing I would try is to relax your memory timings as I have seen many CTD's related to aggressive memory timings.
Just a note I have been playing BFV for about 2 months now and have yet to experience any crashes or lockups. Just posy back results and Im sure we can work this out.

oh shite what a mess
you guys got me into soooo much trouble . i didnt even know what memory cycles were. but unfortunately i found it in my bios settings. they were all set to auto. so i started cranking them up to F1 for game acceleration and agressive for something else. whatever. on reboot i got a checksome error. insert system disk. so i got on my laptop and downloaded the award bios flash program. anyway i updated the bios instead of resetting the cmos memory which is what i shoulda done first .but i was trying to kill two birds with one stone. i dunno. now the boot sequence stops at 'verifying dma pool'
not sure what to do now. any advice would be appreciated

Clear CMOS. You should have a 'password reset' jumper someplace on board - Look up the manual for your board if you need a picture. Simply short the jumper as indictated by your manual, then hit the power button, if the machine stays on shut it back off, reset the jumper, and you should be good to go. I had a few of those happen after flashing and most if not all? were solved like that.

Try to change your AGP/PCI frequency to "locked" in the softmenu setup.

Why is your processor going up to 65 C?
65 C? On a non overclocked 2.8 Northwood? My bro's 2.53 @ 3.2 GHz at stock cooling doesn't even touch that area.
Could you loop PCMark2002 5 times for me? Just the CPU and Memory tests would be fine. It might be a processor issue..
P.S - If you haven't overclocked anything your PC, restoring to defaults is not a problem. Leaving things on Auto is not a bad idea. Go back to the defaults..then start changing AND remember what you changed.

My athalon xp 2500 on an asus a7n8x-x with stock cooling and a CPU fan of about 4,500RPM is 40-47C idle, just doing normal windows, and gets up to 50C or so (MAX i've ever seen my CPU is at 55C, and that was probably after gaming for hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours). And i thought THAT was hot.
