Problem with Omega Drivers and my resolution

I havent been able to find anyone else with this problem, its really anoying..

Basically my main reso is 1600x1050, (widescreen laptop), this reso works fine..

Now the problem occurs anytime i change to a smaller reso (ie in a game) what happens, is rather than make everyhting bigger and still take up the whole monitor (like it should), it will simply take what i see in 1600x1050 and make it smaller to fit into the smaller resolution... (so that i have black unused space on the edges of my screen). It is like watching a widescreen movie on a regular TV, you get thos black bars, only mine are all around.\

I havent found a way to make it so it still takes up the whole screen. Its rather annoying that it does this, because if i want to play a graphics intensive game, like Farcry, i need to turn down the reso, (because my card cant handle playing at 1600x1050). Now this would be fine changing resos, but because it makes my viewing area smaller, it gets harder and harder to play games when my viewing area goes from 15" to 12" (or smaller)

I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

I have an Insiration 8600 Laptop
an ATI Radeon 9600 mobility edition.

Any help would be helpful.

I'm having the exact same problem using the same computer and graphic card. I've just started using Radeon Omega Drivers v2.5.51. Anyone?

Hmmm. I think I found it out myself. In Display Properties -> Advanced, go to Displays -> Panel -> Scale Image -> Expand while maintaining ascpect ratio.
