Help from whomever uses Omega drivers...
Hey guys, just wanted to quickly ask a question. I recently bought an ATi Radeon 9600XT 256MB. I switched from a looonnng use of nVidia cards. the ForceWare drivers for nVidia are quite amazing and always kep my hardware stable. And even tho it seems the ATi hardware is more powerful, the drivers are very unstable and cause problems for me.
I have the newest catalyst (4.5), I'm just wondering if there's a great difference between the normal version and the omega version. Any issues with stability or quality?
I haven't used them before, so I'm sorta a n00b to the omega drivers.
Please help me out, as I'm eager to use my hardware to the max!
Thanx!
Sia.G!

The omega’s are normally better and come with a wide array of added features.
(But if you haven't already you should format because NVIDIA remnants wreak havoc on Ati’s drivers/cards...)

Or at least run Driver Cleaner and let it get rid of the nvida references it finds
Welcome to DH and I hope you have good luck with your ATi card. Remember though as Neon mentioned transfering from a NV card to an ATi card can be frustrating at first but once you have a clean install I think the card should speak for itself

i cant believe how many of the so called veterens of this site are still telling people they have to reformat to solve a problem.99.9% of the time that is wrong.all you need to do is run driver cleaner and follow all the instuctions to the letter, then run a reg-cleaner and make sure there is nothing nvidia left on your system.then reboot and install what ever drivers or card you wish.i have heard of alot of probs with the new omegas, not verified, and i am useing the cats 4.5 also.but i would stick with the official drivers till the next version of the omegas.hope this helps, later

Well it has been my personal experience as a PC support person on many occasions converting from one vendor specific card to another often leads to many annoying issue's during transition. I agree that format is the last resort but an effective one all the same. You are correct that the standard removal procedures should in many cases work like a charm but depending how often one tweaks and plays with hardware/software configurations it can often leave unwanted registy entries behind as well.

hello,i have uninstalled and reinstalled all brands of gpu hardware, the only difficult transition is from ati to nvidia because radeon drivers modded or not are bloated and place reg entries all over the place.but as long as you run the latest version of driver cleaner and follow the instuctions then run a good reg-cleaner to make sure there is nothing left behind and dont have any anti virus or firewall running during uninstall or install,it will be a clean install every time.even in the extreme cases that the person doing it dont know anything about hardware install, all you would have to do is set the bios to default setting and reboot.that is the only thing that could be conflicting with the install if the software was completely uninstalled correctly.voltages and gpu frequencies settings in the bios are the cause of most peoples probs with there cards.i allways revert to default before a hardware change, but you should only have to do that if you are overclocking.i am not a TECH person like you CHAOS,but this is from a little experience.by the way i cant type worth ____. later

We come from an age of technicians that “go what’s wrong?” and no matter what you said their answer would be would be told to use a system restore disk or to format and reinstall.
Well there is some wisdom in that rather then tries to explain something take took years to learn to someone in a few minutes just isn’t going to happen. Sometime on could be an expert and spend hours trying to fix the problem and then go forget it and reformat anyways. Some problems though easy to fix (for the elite few) are much harder for other people who aren’t as experienced to detect what wrong.
It’s best to try a few things or a quick fix and then do what you know is going to fix it for sure. Most people will tell you going form NVIDIA to Ati is to reformat. I read that on dozen of forums not just this one and frankly it’s not a bad idea….
(Most people that are hardcore users reformat ever 30-60days anyways like clock work)
