I've always wondered the same thing. It's one of the main reasons I tend not to use Omega drivers. I've found that even when you remove the drivers, those custom resolutions would still be selectable long after the drivers were gone. It kinda bugged me, so I always stuck with the official Cats.
I have never used (or saw a use for) the custom resolutions. I mean, I'm sure they are useful for something, I just don't know what. I always thought it should have been a selectable option upon install as to whether you wanted them or not, IMO.
I just assumed they were PAL resolutions or something.

The reason for custom resolutions is simple, let's take game that doesn't run at good speed @ 1600x1200 (around 40FPS), then you just lower the resolution one notch or two (1520 or 1400) and then the game runs perfectly at more than 60FPS.
Also, they fill the GAP between 1280 and 1600.
BTW, Nvidia copied some of my resolutions and they are using them on current 53.03 and up drivers.

never used a custom res, do all games support them?
another question: a long time ago, you removed some super-low resolutions that emulators use, are they still disabled in the current set?

I have an idea!
Why not let the user set a resolution him/herself?
Leave a blank box called "Horizontal" and a blank box called "Vertical" (like some emulators do) for user input.
Or you can even keep 2 different sets: One for 4:3 resolution sets and one for 16:9 ones.
But like I said, "It's just an idea!"
It's your call, my friend!
BTW: Don't know what you people are doin' in your spare time than whining about some puny problems with your hard/software 24/7!!!
(You still CAN install de original "ATi Catalyst" for your information if ya can't handle Omega's ones.)
But me? I'm a gamer! I play games...ALL THE TIME!!!
Life's to short ya know!
C ya!

Another big reason for custom resolution is HDTV's and FPD. HDTV's don't sync to many standard PC resolutions other than 640x480.
I use 960x720 and 1280x720.
I'd also like to see the day HDTV timings are factored into ATI drivers. Even when you select 960x720, you have to get the right timing for the picture to display. Using Power Strip, it's possible, just need that to be standard in the drivers.
Some timings I'm using;
1280x720=1280,152,40,184,720,5,5,20,74520,2310
960x720=960,176,96,16,720,1,3,22,55738,2304

any step from 1920x1200 would be nice. I've never used 2048x1536 but will probably never use it.
1920x1200
1920x1080
1856x1392
1800x1440
1792x1344
1600x1200
1520x1140
1400x1050
1360x1020
1280x1024
1280x960
1200x900
all the way down to
800x600
I prefer 1920x1200 since it the native resolution on the dell uxga. sometimes I'll drop it a notch or two to get it to work with some games.

Have a dell inspiron 9100 with a resoluton of 1920x1200. The video card is not fast enough to run all games with such high settings.
1920x1200
1680x1050
1280x800
would be nice! Thx!

This is not all about games.
I play games at 1280/1024, but I like browsing the web at 1400/1050.
I also use OrCAD and AutoCAD where high resolutions are welcomed.
'There is a big waste of space' between 1280/1024 and 1600/1200

Well my Dell Inspiron 600m with SXGA screen has a native resolution of 1400x1050. Seems quite standard across most Dell models with regular 14" or 15" screens.

...to be more direct, 90% of the reasons I use Omega's instead of official cat's are 'custom resolutions'!

Dunno if 1280 x 960 is custom, but I use it now for both Desktop, and for whatever games allow it.
1280 x 960 rules!!!

I agree! 1280x960 rulles!
At least for me, don't make any sense 1280x1024 be "standard" resolution and 1280x960 be "custom".
I think 1280x960 shouldn't be considerate as a custom resolution, because it has the same aspect ratio from 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, and 1600x1200. All this resolutions are 1.33:1 aspect ratio, but 1280x1024 is 1.23:1.

M.W

Couldn't agree more, doesn't make sense in some games all the other resolutions are in 4:3 but then the only 1280 resolution is often the 1280x1024 when it should be 1280x960.
As for custom resolutions, I use the 1400x1050 if for some reason a game runs poorly in 1600x1200.

I definitly need the 960x540 resolution, its the official QHDTV (quarter HDTV) resolution and with this I would enjoy a native resolution on my Sanyo PLV-Z1 projector.
