Neutral Catalyst Drivers Q&A

Hello, my name is Michael Lady better and more widely known as “The_Neon_Cowboy. You’re set of modified driver “Neutral Catalyst has been brought to my attention. I am a member of a site called DriverHeaven (a popular driver/review/discussion site). I often do reviews and articles that get posted on the site and I’m recently written a review/comparison article including your drivers and wanted your feedback.

So far I’ve found you work notable, but I have a few questions for you that many people will be asking themselves.

Hello Michael Lady. I was surprised when I received your e-mail, for the first time. I knew that the most of DriverHeaven.net visitors used Omega Driver, and thought they wouldn’t care for my driver. So I have read your e-mail and considered carefully, and then decided to reply.

I’ve seen your article about 4 modified drivers and it’s quite interesting to me.
Good job.

I live in Seoul, KOREA. Actually, It was when the ati drivers failed to install on my computer, that's when I started to tweak ATI drivers. The first work was based on the Radeon driver 7.68(not Catalyst). It was named "ATIMania Driver." I used ATI installer for that driver. After Catalyst 2.1 was released, my drivers were called "Neutral Catalyst." I wanted my drivers to be easy convenient, all at once. NSIS helped me to develope it.

What do you feel makes your drivers unique.

My first ATI graphics card a PowerColor Radeon 7500, and it was impossible to install the driver that made by ATI. PowerColor’s driver was kind of old. I wanted to install the new driver of ATI, so I started to examine the ATI driver carefully. I edited ATI drivers to install to PBA(Powered by ATI) products, collected other drivers for each Windows versions into one driver, and uploaded it on the net. Later, I could find cool utilities and NSIS (Nullsoft Scriptable Install System.)

What are your opinions on the Omega’s, DNA’s, and Asura drivers?
Quote:
LuCiFeRL
I think that Omega or DNA drivers are not bad. However, in my opinion, Omega driver is excellent, but tweaked too much. It is a good idea to contain the control panel into Omega driver, but it would be too big to support all versions of Windows. I welcomed DNA driver because it is the other newer one except Omega. Actually I've never used it, but I will give it a try. The Asura Drivers are really only used in KOREA. It has not many functions, but has stability and confirmed-tweaking. It contains Korean language, but you can still allways give it a try.

Is the original ATI license intact in there somewhere I didn’t notice it displayed?
Quote:
LuCiFeRL
Neutral Catalyst contains the original ATI license, but you can't see it because of silent installing. But did you ever read ATI ELUA? By ATI EULA, all tweaked drivers are unlawfulness. Why? See a clause of section 2. So, Neutral don't display it, but only few lines included it. If Omega was get agreement to mod driver from ATI, I must get agreement from ATI, and display EULA. EULA is "End User License Agreement".

"ATI End User License Agreement

c) electronically transmit the Software from one computer to another or over a network or otherwise transfer the Software except as permitted by this License."

[[:AGEMO:]] does that have a meaning in your language or anything because I heard allegations regarding to your drivers such as if you re-arrange AGEMO you get OMEGA and that you maybe using Omega’s custom resolutions . To me you work seems original but I need to get your side on this to help prevent any mud slinging form any would be critics of your work.
Quote:
LuCiFeRL

[[:AGEMO:]] has no special meaning. At the first time, it's only used not to be treated "Neutral" as a clone of Omega, but I used that to make a better driver than Omega. You know, Neutral's Custom resolution is same as Omega. Many people requested me to support Custom Resolution like Omega's. So I made that routine by myself. It's easy to support if you gather some information on websites. I don't mean to abuse Omega at all. It's a different matter as DivX and XviD.

"Neutral Catalyst" is definitely not a clone of "Omega." Omega driver was released before Neutral Catalyst, so some people think like that. I took just some idea from Omega for my first driver. Now, there are no relations between "Neutral Catalyst" and "Omega driver." I want to give originality to my driver, and I will keep it. If you think of Neutral is stealing Omega's work or just custom resolutions, it is a laughing matter. Why? To add custom resolutions is too easy. I use the original installer of ATI drivers for my "Neutral Catalyst." By the reason, there is no tweaking. It could be installed all at once, and almost perfectly installed and removed. You know, installing is kind of boring job. So "Neutral" gives some nice pictures to see.
Some Neutral Installer Shots if you haven't seen them yet.

Do you prefer to be referred to as LuCiFeRL and if you would like your real name and anything you’d like to mention as well.
Quote:
LuCiFeRL

I don't like the nickname LuCiFeRL. However, only that is already known as my nickname in KOREA. You know, Korean names are difficult to pronounce and remember, so I use that nickname continuously.

The final version of Neutral Catalyst is v4.1.0.4. I have a plan to make a new driver with the maker of Asura Driver. It will be called "UniAN Catalyst.", and next version of Neutral Catalyst.

Finally, "http://www.atimania.com" is the best ATI users' community in Korea. It started in 1999; I upload there my "Neutral Catalyst". If you know Korean language, give it a visit. (There is not only "DarkCrow" in Korean web sites!)

Interesting stuff, thanks. I'm not sure if it's interesting enough to get me to try a new driver set when the Omegas work fine for me, but I'll definitely be following the development of these drivers and paying attention to what people think of them. Maybe once there's more information out there I'll think about giving them a try.

I like the anime themed install screens

I'm sticking by my default ATI's, but it's nice to see so many flavours of it out there.

Definetly want to give those drivers a whirl. I think i was the one that posted AGEMO = Omega in another thread(which i can't find) lol. But i said it was perhaps to give credit or something to him. Luciferl seems rather cool and its good to have more options for tweaked drivers. I love Omega drivers, and hopefully Neutral Catalyst will be great to!

Great Job Cowboy!
