Good evening ladies and gents, here are your release notes for Catalyst 4.1...
New Features This section provides information on new features found in this release of the CATALYST™ Display Drivers. New features include: ATI OVERDRIVE™ Enhancement OpenGL Shading Language Enhancement ATI OVERDRIVE™ Enhancement ATI OVERDRIVE™ maximizes the performance of the graphic accelerator by increasing the speed of the graphics processor. This is done by constantly monitoring the temperature of the graphics processor, so that the maximum clock speed can always be maintained. The latest rendition of ATI OVERDRIVE™ now provides the user with more information on the temperature and frequency of their graphics processor. This feature is supported under the Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows 98/98SE and Millennium operating systems, and is supported on the following ATI RADEON™ products: ATI RADEON™ 9800 XT ATI RADEON™ 9600 XT OpenGL Shading Language Enhancement This release improves support for the OpenGL Shading Language (GLSL), a flexible, forward-looking, and hardware-independent high-level graphics programming language. The OpenGL Shading Language, defined as an open standard by the OpenGL Architecture Review Board, allows application developers to take advantage of the powerful programmable vertex and pixel processing units present in the 3D graphics system. This release includes changes to increase compliance with the final ratified GLSL specifications, adds support for projective texture sampling, and improves support for interactions between GLSL-based rendering and traditional fixed-function vertex and pixel processing. Developers who are interested in using the OpenGL Shading Language should visit our website http://www.ati.com/developer for more details and documentation. d/l as we speak...That Tron 2.0 bug looks ugly, but I appreciate KOTOR fix since I experienced it.

I just got the CAT 4.1 drivers for both my 9600 Pro under XP and my 64 DDR VIVO under 98SE.
Both of these computers were running Omega's latest drivers for the card/system prior to getting the CAT 4.1s. I ran the Uninstall for both the ATi Control Panel and Omega's drivers prior to attempting to install the CAT 4.1s. The 98SE drivers installed without a hitch and are working great! I had to finagle with the installation on the 9600 Pro/XP system. At first the installation wanted to say it couldn't find the correct hardware. Went into Safemode and attempted it there. XP essentially installed its own 'default' version of the ATi drivers and, once I got back into normal XP, I was able to finally do an install that works. However, I got an error warning on the screen that Windows couldn't open a file. (I'll have to reboot to see what that file name was again and, if it happens again, I'll post it.) Finally, the issue I've mentioned about Babylon 5: I've Found Her still exists. You can see the issue here: Textures Missing - Babylon 5 - IFH EDIT: Upon rebooting the XP system, I did not encounter any popup error message as mentioned above. However, I had disabled the Taskbar items from the Control Panel/Options if that may have been the cause of it.

Smartgart appears to be working for me on my 9600 Pro/XP system.
Of course, my 64 DDR VIVO doesn't support it and therefore it's turned Off on that system.

Another bug im seeing alot posted around the net is overdriver temp moniter is way off bugs ive seen on these as i know terry doesnt have time to see every forum:
examples: Lost the overdrive tab on my 9600xt. Had it before with the 3.10's. 2500+ w/ 9600xt Epox 8rda+ @225mhz FSB Muskin LVL II these drivers seem to have screwed with various textures in ut 2003 O_o also performance decrease i went from an average 100+ fps now im down to at least 50-60 hmm something wrong here , back to 3.10's i think where is the overdrive option is it a seperate install i cant see it anywhere I'm only 100pts off what the others do on 03 but the core temp probe they have set at 5x when it should be at 3xc. My riva and it are the same if ya change the number. They both go up to 54/34 which is where my temps stop at on this with my water. I know, i have probs all over that thing with my digidoc5. Myne took a 1.4k loss in 3dm03... Obviously i need a uninstall-reinstall for them but still that seem odd. And wth is up with there temp mon... 50c..... Rivatunner is putting me in the high 29's to low 30c with my watercooling, water in the mid 70f's |

Dave im sure Terry appreciates the information but im not a firm believer in reading quotes from other people. id rather hear what people here have to say 1st hand rather than third person stuff.
Keep the feedback coming people, it helps. |

It seems the problems im hearing are in some way related to driver cleaner, after working through the 3 people ive been in contact with, ive sorted those problems.
if anyone else is having issues with these drivers and smartgart, try installing them over the top without uninstalling the set first. ill have a chat with Spike about this and see what he says. |

Also, i'd be more inclined to think that ATI's temps are correct and Rivatuner is incorrect. After all, its ati's hardware.

Either way, I'm waiting for the Omegas based on these. Switching back and forth between Omega and stock Catalists wasn't a very good idea with previous releases. |
