Visual Corruption with Omega and Radeon 3.10 Drivers
((Thread remade with a more descriptive subject line))
I posted this originally in the wrong forum, but here's what it was: Original Post: I receive an error message when using ATI Radeon 3.10 Drivers on my Radeon 9200 saying something like VPU (?) was unable to recover from an error and then later that hardware rendering is unavailable and I will need to restart. The problem occurs a few seconds after logging in. The screen will fizzle out and become distorted, filled with either pink or blue (perhaps both) broken lines. After a second the desktop comes back, but everything is quite sluggish from accessing the start menu, bringing up menus via right clicking, scrolling down pages, accessing menu's in programs, etc... This problem only has occurred when I have installed the 3.10 drivers. This is the third time I have install them (going from CD to 3.9 to 3.10 to 3.9 to CD to 3.10 to 3.9 to 3.10) and the second time I have downloaded them and I get the same problem every time. I have also attempted using the OmegaCorner 3.10 Drivers, but I get the same error and error message. I am attempting to work with EA Games Technical Support to get a new game I have purchased to work and they tell me to update to the latest video drivers, but I get that error mentioned above before I have time to launch the game. If I try to launch the game after the error has occurred I get another error saying that Direct3D could not be enabled. The game (turns out actually two games (Return of the King; Enter the Matrix) from different companies, hence why I’m thinking it’s defiantly a driver problem) will not run on 3.9 drivers. I've contacted ATI support, but I haven't heard back from them and really want to play before I head back to school, so I'm hoping someone here can help... Thank you. - user "JohnyBravo" suggested using the driver cleaner. - Reply: Well, nice try, but I get the same annoying little error. Here's some more details. When the error occurs and everything comes back, a dialogue box comes up saying that "VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands." The bottom half of the dialogue box is just options to tell ATI and send an error report. Typically after I close this dialogue box another message saying that VPU Recover has disabled Hardware acceleration (I think this is what it says) and switched to Software acceleration (again, I think) and I need to restart, but restarting simply brings the error back again. If I try to launch Return of the King I get an error saying that no Direct3d (something) could be found. - I've tried the omega 3.10 drivers and get the same error. And unfortuantly I can't get either ROTK nor ETM to work with the 3.9 drivers and don't have the option to launch it in 3.10 before the corruption appears. I'm going to download the Omega Catalyst 3.9 and see what happens, but something tells me the games won't work then, either... |

There is a chance it could be a monitor(driver) issue, check wich monitor driver is used
reinstalling chipset drivers and/or reinstalling DX9.0b might help to |

If you're not having any problems with the 3.9's, then just stick with them. Different drivers react differently for different setups (did I just use the word 'different' in a sentence 3 times? Whoops, make that 4 times
). Apparently, yours doesn't like the 3.10's for whatever reason. Also be sure to go here and report any and all problems to ATI. They need, and want, to know about such problems. Hope you get your problems worked out. I know I'd be pretty infuriated about now if that was happening to me.

monitor drivers - negative. installed from CD, thought it fixed, nope. Updated from Samsung website, back to the same error.
dx9.0b - nope - redownloaded, same problem. |

Rayder: I'd like to just stay with 3.9, but unless I can come up with another reason why neither ROTK nor ETM will work without freezing (ROTK during the intro movies, ETM after activating a trigger), and since they're from different companies and publishers, the only thing I can come up with wrong is that it's something with the drivers.

Sorry to hear your troubles buddy but im gonna make you feel worse telling you that your pick of Vidcard wasnt the best thing you could have done.
The 9200 has a history of similar problems in a alot of forums ive read. and it works fine BUT...yes but..with certain drivers and not just and version out there. Try to turn off FASTWRITES from the smartgart settings or even better do it from your mobo bios too (if this option is there) And also set your agp to 4x (you wont really miss it) and since you are in the bios MAKE SURE that the agp aperture is at least 128 (this if you have at least 256mb of ram on the mobo). If all else fails may also want to RMA it because it may also be a bad GPU or its bios. If you want to risk it try reflashing the bios with a cracked version from here NOTE : MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RIGHT ONE FOR THE MEMORY YOU HAVE ON THE CARD AND ALSO NOTE THAT YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK AND ONLY IF YOU HAVE DONE SOMETHING LIKE THIS BEFORE OR AT LEAST HAVE SOMEONE THAT KNOWS HOW TO DO FOR YOU. One more thing: try posting your system specs so we have a better idea of what we are dealing with here. (example: cpu/motherboard/ram/power supply/brand-make of the vidcard etc. gOODLUCK !! P.S i suggest you RMA it or get anonther card just to be sure...but thats just my opinion..

I had the problem once with 3.9 playing battlefield 1942... then i just upgraded to omega's 3.10's and had the problem every single time playing americas army..
the solution.. just turn it off in the ati control panel.. never saw the problem again..
