Smilie changing cpu and memory

l have a amd athlon xp 2600+thoroughbreed with 1gig of pc2100 with 266fsb
the pc2100 not geat if you try to overclock a little ,anway butting in athlon xp 3000+barton with 400 fsb and l gig of pc3500 level 2 with 433 fsb.told if l put more than 1gig of pc3500,l would have problems,l got new hearsink with fan, coolmaster jet 7 ,can l change the cpu without removing everything, have full tower, power supply overhead. l need to keep the memory slots on motherboard free as they close to cpu.its a abit nf7-s v2 motherboard.when l install the cpu and heatsink with fan and install memory,do l just reboot system or do l have to do something else, just checking before l do this, its my first time changing cpu and installing heatsink on top, changed everything else
cheers

Ram and CPU swaps are probably the easiest upgrades. You dont need to set anything up, its the easiest form of plug and play.

Just take out your old ram and replace it with the pc3500. Put one stick in back 2 and one stick in bank 3.

Try booting and check to see that all of the ram is recognized.

Then put in the new CPU. (make sure the HS is on securely on all 6 tabs)

Check the bios and make sure all the settings are correct for your new chip. 1.65Vcore,400FSB, ect...

You probably want to raise the ram voltage to 2.7V for stability. (BH5 chips love voltage)

If you have enough room in your case, you don't have to take out the mobo first. Just be careful not to unplug any wires. If you do, make sure that they're correctly plugged in.

Voltages for CPU and RAM should be in the section of the BIOS called "Advanced" something.

Unless you have enthuasiast memory and some form of memory cooling, I wouldn't put the RAM setting to a too aggressive level. In the end, doing so may disrupt the stability of your system.
