Well guys

i don't know if some of you read my last post about the Cat 3.8 and the SmartGart tab,
where it would not let me use the 8x it kept going bac to 4x.


Well i have done 2 freash installs one with the Cat 3.7

WinXP Pro SP1
DX9
Abit AT7-MAX2 with Bios update EB
and all other drivers up todate

I could use the 8x SmartGart tab with no problem at all i was happy,
So i thought i would do a freash install again and use the Cat 3.8 drivers.

Well i tryed the SmartGart tab and clicked on the 8x and restarted the system,
and when i checked the SmartGart tab again it was back on the 4x and would not go
to the 8x no matter how many times i tryed it

Then i tryed the new VIAHyperion4in1449v Drivers well it worked 8x
But only for a few min then when i tryed to run a 3D screen saver or game it just locked up my system
all together but when i un-installed the VIAHyperion4in1449v it worked ok but it went back to 4x again.


Does any one have any idear about whats going on with this one?

try uninstalling again

reinstall your via drivers reboot.

install drivers again give that a try you never know.

double check your bios to see if 8x is enabled.

I have installed again and put Cat 3.8 on a freash install and still no luck even DX9b as well and
SP1a as well....

and that does not let me go to 8x at all only 4x.


So if i do a freash install again (which i have) and only put Cat 3.7 and that lets me get 8xAGP and i have not changed a thing why
can i not get, Get 8x when i have done a clean install again and put only Cat 3.8 and not able to get 8x AGP.

And nothing has changed at all only the Cat 3.8 nothing else..


Please any one else have any idears please....

Have you tried drivercleaner and cab cleaner?

believe me i am learning new stuff since i have been here on dh.

when you format your hdd did you use a specific utility or windows format.

if it were windows format that don't fully format the hdd your better using a seperate utill as i use kill disk that is installed onto a floppy and is bootable.then follow instuctions.

is your bios upto date i know you have quoted that just checking to see if it is the latest for your mobo.

yes upto date Bios for the ABit AT7-MAX2 MB

i did not need to do a cab cleaner (I have used it before) as i did i freash install of WinXP Pro then put the Cat 3.8 Drivers on and
had the problems as above no 8x AGP only 4x. No matter how many times i had re-started the system when Promt to do so for the
Cat 3.8 to work.....


So i did a Clean Install again WinXP Pro with Cat 3.7 on went to the SmartGart tab and made shaw it was on 8x AGP
then Re-started again and it WORKED so if it can Work with the Cat 3.7 why does it not work when i did the above

there has to be some thing that stoping it from working or there is a driver problem!
