LOD settings?

In some games the models change to bad looking low polycount low texture ones way too close to camera. when you play at 1600X1200 its very obvious and looks like a bad bug before you realize what it is, its distracting and looks cheap. so i was wondering if the Level of Detail settings are somehow tweakable through drivers, or is it always coded into the game?

9800 pro, its most obvious in motogp 2 but happens in other games too, its more subtle (not so big difference) but still happens. are the LOD levels controlled by the application or the drivers?

It can be both.
Check that your Mipmap and Texture detail sliders are all the way to the right in the control panel.
