9600 non pro Major Problem

Please help me I have
Win 2k
2400+XP
ASUS a7v8x-x
300w Powersupply
AGP Ati Sapphire Radeon 9600 Non pro128mb

I have tried the latest official drivers and the supposedly more stable 3.4
Ihave also tried the latest omega drivers i get the same problwm with all a blank screen on start up and my monitor goes black. The omega driver worked once but has since given me a blank screen.
Ihave searched around and am wondering if one of these is the problem
My motherboard apparently takes only a 1.5v card
I only have a 300w power supply or i am using the extra monitor part that came with card finally i do get picture in safe mode so it does work and is installed correctly please help ive spent a day solid trying to sort this and am close to giving up thanks.

This is your mobo right?

300w should be ok, but its really quite borderline for that system...... What are your bios settings? have you fast writes on or off? have you checked your voltages?

Personally the first thing I would do is reformat and put a clean new XP OS on your rig. Then follow this procedure.

mobo drivers first
windows updates
offical ATI 3.7 drivers

if you post more information we can help more.

Dunno if this can help, but I had weird issues with my computer if I installed ATI Drivers before Motherboard ones (like black screen during installation, for example).

I had that problem on my friend's computer.

It means that refresh rate which card gives doesn't fit the monitor's specs.

You should try booting to Safe Mode and changing it to what your monitor can accept.

Press "F8" during system startup, it will allow you to choose which mode you want to run Windows in.
Then select safe mode. Wait until it loads.

Once you get in safe mode, choose not to use System Restore, but to use Safe Mode to fix it.

Go to Display Properties and change the setting (refer to your monitor's manual for info).

You would be safe to set the refresh to 60Hz to start with at a resolution on 800x600. You will get refresh rates available (probably) of 60, 70or72,75,85, and sometimes 90.

Make sure your resolution is set to 800x600 @ 60Hz to start with and go up from there. Your monitor wont be able to support the higher refresh rates at the higher resolutions so keep them low to start with.

I believe the v55 is a 15" monitor so the resolution probably wont go past 1024x768 @60Hz but I'm willing to be proved wrong.

I received the loop error when i poped y ati 9200 out... and put the 9600 in without uninstalling anything.... was fine after that.... however, I have one question... if you turn your audio up... (while windows is starting)... And hear anything? (even though the screen is black).... if you can.... you must have a monitor video card incabability...and/or your Card isn't seeing a monitor on the port.... BTW, are you using a Standard VGA connector....or the DVI?... If you using a dvi/converter.... try setting it up to use the standard VGA..... Other then that, your last resort is to see if a friends monitor might work on it.... (perferably a friend with a better/higher quality monitor)..... If all else fales.. it could be an utter and complete Dud... (i got a 9200... popped it in....and had odd troubles.... took it back..got a replacement...and it worked FLAWLESSLY)

I had the same problen when I tried out the Mwarhead Remixed NForce Drivers. I would get the black screen and then my monitor went to standby (yellow light not green) I formatted and reinstalled using the steps that Zardon mentioned above and all is now fine......I could also hear audio as Judas mentioned above.

This would mean that either refresh rate..... your video card is either defaulting to a different head.... AGP drivers are corrupt... basically... it can have anything to do with the video card... AGP port... and the drivers that controll the already mentioned.....

When the monitor goes into standby... that's usually a good diagnosis sign..... Most monitors go into standby on to high a refresh rate... some high quality ones will tell you how high a refresh rate it is recieving that's out of range..... (if your monitor supports this... then this will tell you if your refresh rates are messed up....or if there is something else that is wrong...)..... It's time for the Elimination game.....
