Default Post HELP ! Serious problem with All Catalyst Drivers

I'm really hoping that you great people on this forum can help me...My problem is that I can't seem to use ANY drivers based on the Catalyst series, whenever i install them, they either LOOK fine, but then when i go into games, my framefrates are HORRIBLE (9FPS compared to 111 previously). The other problem that occurs is that when i install the drivers and restart, the screen is all distorted, cutting off the edges of my screen, changing resolutions to higher just makes the cut-off worse. The latest drivers i can use without any problems are the 6093's. I've tried the Omega's and the plain leaked ati ones, and they all cause the same problems. I've also tried it on 2 of my ATi systems, and they both have the same problems, my system specs are:

System 1:
Windows XP Pro
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
1gb PC2100 DDR Ram
SB Live!
ECS K7S5A
RADEON 64MB DDR VIVO
Maxtor 60gb 7200rpm

System 2:
Windows XP Pro
AMD Athlon XP 1900+
512mb PC2100 DDR Ram
Onboard Audio
ECS K7S5A
Radeon 7000 64mb SDR
Fujitsu 13gb 7200rpm / Samsung 13gb 7200rpm

If you have any suggestions as to WHY these problems are happening on both of my systems, or how i could fix these problems i'd greatly appreciate it. I really would like to get the Catalyst Drivers working because i've heard so much positive feedback about them.

Uninstall your drivers following this procedure:

http://www.driverheaven.net/thread.php?id=1953

Install new Catalyst drivers again. (if official drivers don't work, try plutonium).

Also, make sure your card isn't overclocked (I doubt this would make a difference, but it is possible).

I've tried following that guide, but when it got to the registry editing, it said there would be about 3 or 4 entries, and i had about 7, so i wasn't sure which ones to delete. I dont think that those entries alone could be causing all this trouble no? And no, my card isn't overclocked

Ahhhh... now I see. I've been in that situation before. This situation means that you've had a very very messy driver installation because of so many unclean installations. What you have to do is rather than deleting just one of those entries, you have to look through ALL of them and delete ANY AND EVERY entry containing ATI related settings.

Well, i've tried cleaning out all those registry entries, still no luck. I've just discovered something that might be a good sign. When I installed the omega's just now, i took a screenshot of the distorted screen and saved it, but now when i look at it back in the 6093's, everything is fine. Does this help anyone in finding the source of the problem? i really hope so.

Im not a staff member but with the amount of emails and ideas ive swapped with em i may as well be.......ISV when are you getting my check in the mail?

ok first of all uninstall all ATi programs including MMC, DVD, Drivers, and control panel.

When asked to reboot do not do so.

Uninstall all tweakers

make sure you delete all atixx.xxx from the C:\windows\system32 folder
also make sure you delete the C:\ATi folder that the driver install programs create

Now once you have done that reboot...now its time for the reg clean...

ok now when you delete the reg entries there are the ones under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ATi Technologies

and if you have MMC installed there will be another one under

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ATi xxxx (the x's being Technologies or Multimedia, etc.)

Delete all of those keys.

Now in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM there should be 3 groups to worry about

ControlSet001
ControlSet002
CurrentControlSet

Now under each one of these select Control\Video

Once in there its very easy to find out which keys are added in by ATi

If you open one of the keys (this being an example: {23A77BF7-ED96-40EC-AF06-9B1F4867732A} ) and you see

+0000
+0001
Video

those are the ones you want to delete...any that look like

0000
Video

or

0000
0001
Video

Leave alone

make sure they have the ability to expand and those are always the right ones to delete

now reboot again and install the new drivers and ur tweakers and ATi MMC components if you wish.

It should work great
