Default Post worth it? 7500 to 8500

i just built my newest system, athlon XP 1800+, 160GB 7200rpm RAID config (two 80gb), 512MB PC2100 DDR RAM. this thing needs to be more 'smokin' than it is. the reason is the video card. i need to get a better one.

okay, i have an all in wonder radeon 7500 64mb ddr. its a good card, but is the screwiest of the bunch. it works weird in GTA3, it screws up in alot of things. i am able to *trade* this, along with a $60 dvd player, to a friend for a brand new all in wonder radeon 8500DV 64mb ddr. i would much rather have an AIWradeon 8500DV 128mb but... this is the best i can do. my question is, is that trade worth it? will i see a boost in performance as a result of upgrading to the AIW8500DV?

or... should i try to sell the 7500, and add that to some money that i can save up to get the latest Ti4600 geforce? i am tired of ati's crappy drivers, and i haven't gotten to omega/plutonium stuff to do well with the 7500 at least (but i'm sure they kick ass on the 8500, from what i hear).

let me know your thoughts

-thx

I guess I would do it!

I have a 7500, too, and as far as I can say, the only card for which ATI is developing/tailoring drivers anymore is the 8500!

The simple fact, that on the 8500 GTA3 runs fine and on the 7500 I still have this idiotic fog-bug shows me, that all the older cards seem to be dead for ATI.

BUT on the other hand:
R250 will be released soon including price drops on the 8500 sector! Perhaps you can get a cheap(er) 128 MB than!

And on the third (welcome to science fiction) hand:
Perhaps ATI will also neglect the 8500 in driver development after the launch of the R250 and your back where you've started!

BUT the Argument of all arguments that you should make the deal:

CYBORG OWNS A 8500 (NOT A 7500) AND SO YOU WON'T HAVE A LACK OF FANTASTIC WORKING DRIVERS

you could donate the 7500 to cyborg...it would be for a good cause.

I went from a 7500 to a 8500 and im glad ,much better performance, but i did have less trouble out of my 7500 as far as drivers. I think i would wait till the 250 comes out, the price of the 8500 will do down, I dont think theres any game the 7500 cant handle right now.
