Is there a point upgrading to the 'a' version?

I have a 9700Pro, just went back to my Asus A7V333 as my NF7-S was faulty, so I'm missing nForce already, lol...Resisting the urge to reinstall as we all know windows is weird after hardware changes

is the 'a' version any quicker? better IQ? etc etc

Thanks

Remeber, that startup programs take their order when starting the PC and if you have MANY startup programs (like the icons on your system tray), this will delay the Smartgart startup process.
I actually get an error message saying Smartgart didn't start- I just disabled smartgart in Services after installing the drivers, and before shutting down. Then when I restart, I run smartgart manually from the services menu, then it does it's check- Seems to work pretty good.

The two ATi services only ever need to run once. Some people disable them after installing the drivers, but before rebooting...then reboot... start the two services... (screen flickers)... update the running services list, one of them stops... then just disable them both

But first you need to enter into the ADMIN TOOLS ---> SERVICES. Here select the ATI "SMART" and also the "HotKey Poller" disable them both right now! Than manually reboot.
what do you mean exactly .. where will I find the ADMIN TOOLS ?

Yup- it is because it's already been installed. That happened to me too- you have to uninstall it in the control panel, then reinstall it. It worked for me.

You could uninstall it, (delete the folder in your c: drive too) then reinstall radclocker by itself.

Well, this sucks.

Homeworld 2 wasnt working until I installed the Omega Drivers (Thanks Omega)

However.. now it works, but freezes and stops responding completely randomly during video and game sequences..

When XP (pro) reboots, I get this error.

Error signature--------------------------------------------

szAppName : Drivers.Display szAppVer : 100241700000031002
szModName : ati2dvag.dll szModVer : 6.14.10.6378 Offset : BB1406EA

Thoughts?

That does suck- I would uninsatall everything (drivers, radlinker, )- use DH driver cleaner v2 in SAFE MODE- and also use the cab cleaner.

Then reinstall the drivers.
___________________________________
BUT- before you restart after the driver install, go to the services in administrative tools.
Disable smartgart and hotkey poller. Turn them off.
___________________________________

Then reboot- got to services and turn them both back on, then wait 30 seconds.

Let the screen blink/flicker- then turn BOTH services back off- And leave them off-

Install radclocker/ refreshforce- then reboot.

Should work

what do the 2 services do exactly .. ?
I tried it yesterday ? I cleaned all ... then installed the latest Omega an disabled the 2 services before reboot.

After reboot I switched them to automatic an started them manually ... on my desktop PC (8500 modded to 9100 by bios) all is fine .. but also all is fine if I do nothing ...

On my Notebook (Dell Inspiron 8100/9000 mobility) the system always freeze one time ... if I install the omegas normally or if I install them with this services trick !!!

I Found out, that the system works fine either ... but if i reboot after install of Omega drivers in Safe Mode one time and then reboot normally ... there will be no freeze an all will be fine too ..

so what the hell do the services are for ? (sorry .. I'm a noob at this question)

Smartgart has to run once right after the install for the drivers to install correctly from what I've heard.

Sometimes it doesn't run by itself after the reboot for some reason.. So if you disable it, then reboot after the install, then enable it- let it run, then disable it- the install will work properly. At least that is the theory, but it worked for me.. I had this problem for the first time after I bought an Nforce 2 motherboard. And this was the only solution for me.

But that might not be your problem, it was just a guess. but cleaning out old drivers is very important if you have had an Nvidia video card in the PC before the installation of an ATI card, I know that for sure.

hm .. I think no matter .. if the solution wit x safe mode boot works for me, i don't have to take the freeze while starting it manually.

??? How to disable the services

Are these ati2evxx.exe and atiptaxx.exe in WinXP ?
- if so, how do you disable them?
- they take up 6 Mb memory and I'm trying to keep the laptop memory up, so any unnecessary services

Ya know, half the time the errors reported are with the file ati2dvag.dll..

Is that the file?

If so, I echo the question, how would I go about diabling it?

the ones based on the 3.5's are "rad_w2kxp_omega_2460 (ATI)" but for the installation to work you have to install the "official" 3.5 drivers then the omega ones otherwise you might get the error message "your sumthing sumthing does not support this sumthing" (cant remember precise words) and the driver will not install properly.

i'm using an IBM T40 laptop w/ the screen resoultion of 1400x1050. however, after instaling the latest omega drives, it won't let me use the laptop at that resolution. the highest i can use is 1200x1024, even though the monitor drivers fully support 1400x1050. is there any way i can tell windows to make the resolution higher or something?

also, it is true for lcd screens such as on laptops, the lower the refresh rate, the better?

you installed the official 3.5 and overwrite them with Omega's 2460 ?? o_O
I had a strange problem yesterday ... I worked with the Omegas 2474 (not "a") till the actual 2478a came out ... the 2474 were the only drivers, which won't stutter my mobility 9000 in the Dell Inspiron 8100 Notebook ... and finally the 2478a were fine, too.

At the weekend I reinstalled XP fresh and clean on my notebook to write down a new disk image .. yes the old one was from nov. 2001 !!!

But suddenly the fresh installed 2478a stutter again ... perhaps Omega can say something about ... I think I'll go back to the 2474 again :/

Yup! The only way they would install is if the 3.5's were already on. Found this out the other day because i removed the omagas 2474 because of random crashes in some games so i then tried to install the omega 2460's then it gave me an error message. I was wondering why they didnt work because i had them on my system before so i thought back and figured out i had to install the official cat 3.5's or it woudnt work.

??? Small glitch with Quake3 (OGL)

I'm using Omega Drivers v2.4.78 (not A)

There is something weird happening to me (never had that before) - if I join a Q3 server for the first time (after booting my PC) - it will connect but I will see Q3 frames displayed very fast (like if they were buffered in big amounts and they displayed very quickly - it will stop after 10 seconds and then if I go and play the resolution will get changed to a lower one - if I try to change it via Q3, the Color 32 bit will not be selectable anymore...NOW, if I exit and reconnect, things are fixed - weird, uh? some kind of initialization issue - tried to reinstall a few things but did not help - This is a bit annoying but also the first time this happened - I even did a fresh reinstall of Windows and Q3...

Besides this, Omega's set is great (as usual)

This does NOT happen with other OGL games (i.e. NWN) - just Q3

Any idea?

Thanks,

???

Omega, I have three questions.

Is it usefull to try these with an Athlon 64, are there already tweaks for it in these set?

How do you improve the IQ for your driversets, is it a matter off extra lod (I don't know if there is a limit via the drivers unlike nVidia's. Damn I like some extra lod ) So (how)does it bring extra IQ and which cann't be done on the referencedriver? (without regtweaks offcourse )

Did you solve the openGL 16 bits colorbug?

1. They work, no problem, but no 64bit tweaks, sorry.
2. No LOD involved, just some tweaks, and it can be done in the reference drivers, but need to know how
3. That can be solved only by ATI, wait until the Cat 3.8, that's all I can say.

Apparently you can watch movies only on 1 screen, has something to do with copyright....... software blocking.

Playing video in a window only works on the primary display adaptor. Not sure about the mobility chips but on my 9600pro with a second monitor attached the best way to watch video is to select clone mode for the second display and then use the clone mode options in overlay to set theatre mode. This gives full screen video on the second monitor and allows me to do other things on the main monitor. The picture on the second monitor freezes if the mediaplayer (or whatever other app I am using) is minimised but it has no problems hiding behind other windows.
NOTE: You need to set the clone mode options after enabling clone mode.
