9800pro this Thursday *w00t*

I've been browsing these forums, preparing for the worse when my 9800pro arrives. This is going to be my first ATi card (replaceing my GeForce 3) and just hope it'll be stable running games, movies, and 2d stuff. Anyway... I guess the best route to take is to do a clean insall, which is what I'll be doing.

My question: When installing the nforce2 2.45 drivers, I was wondering if the GART drivers needed to be installed, I know the GART drivers is agp related, but I'm not sure if it's only for nvidia cards or is something needed for the 9800 to work properly, maybe a conflict with the GART drivers and 9800?

:/ I'm an ATi n00b and just wanna get things right the first time.

Shouldn't be a problem... Just install the drivers regularly then install the drivers for the Radeon9800pro...

I believe that you do in fact need the GART drivers for the Nforce2 based mobo's for you to get 3d AGP acceleration...

You'd should be just fine, I'm running a 9700Pro on the same board and it literally screams so your's should be even louder!

After long wait I finallyl got my 9800 Pro and I couldn't be any happier with it

The only thing that bugs me is the gamma settings for games. When ever I start a game it always uses the default Catalyst setttings (3.6 btw), instead of my profile, the hotkeys work though. And whenever I run 3dm2k1 I use a hotkey to use my profile then when the next test comes up it goes back to the default Catalyst settings again. Anyone have a solution to this?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think it could be the drivers 'cause the same thing happens with the 3.4 and Omgega 3.6 based drivers.

I should also note that I didn't end up doing a clean install (too impatient), so maybe that could be another reason for my gamma issue, but I'm still an ATi n00b, so I have no idea.

I'll probably end up doing a clean install, once I get my files backed-up.

I'm not sure I understand. So your having the gamma problem, and also other setting problems? What exactly is wrong with the gammer in 3D that you don't like?

It's just that my settings profile won't load when I launch a game and everytime I have to use a hotkey to load my profile, which I really don't mind, but when I use a hotkey to load my profile and then run 3dmark 2k1... the gamma, brightness, contrast defaults back to the orginal catalyst settings between each of 3dmarks tests.

Odd, I've never noticed any issues with my 9700 Pro and those items which you listed. I know this probably has nothing do with it but have you installed the latest drivers for your monitor?
