EEK! What happend to the 8x AA with 9700?

I changed my Radeon 8500 to a Radeon 9700 Pro.
Everything is smoother, faster, (...) BUT

what happend to the 8x Anti-aliasing?!?

Will it come in future releases? Or is it the price for the new Smoothvision II?

I realy apreciated this mode, because within 3D Max the 8x AA gives you realy the feeling of a higher screen-solution. The other modes (2x, 4x, 6x) just make the grid getting fuzzy.
Well, it's been at least like it with my old 8500.

Any clues?

digitalwanderer is an unknown quantity at this point

It's different with the 9700's AA, I find that 4xAA on me 9700 Pro is better than 8x on my 8500 was. (Or mebbe it's all that tasty AF too... ) Give it a try, I think you'll find a setting you like. The 9700 is an entirely different generation than the 8500 and there will be a few other adjustments to make too.

rolleyes OK, I'll try to be patient

Thanks...

I played with the settings. Well, it did not solve my 3D Max problem, but you are right! It is ways better than the 8500 was!

As I remember the 8500 hasn't been able to do the 8x AA within the first 4 driver releases. And before that it's been exacly the way the 9700 behaves now.

I haven't been aware, that it's a totaly new design, thow they have to programm all the smart Smoothvision routines again.
