3.5 the beginning of the end for ati.

Anyone see the huge quality loss with 3.5s. Everyone’s all yippidy doo over a 100point increase in 3d2k3, but u know where that came from. if they took out all optimizations yet u have a higher score, where u think the performance comes from. ati's turning into nvidia. the stupid 3dmark wars are ruining ati’s rep, and advantage over nvidia (quailty). Quality’s why iv stuck with ati all these years.
Have u ever compared the quality of a original radeon 32mb with aa and af on with old drivers like 2.5 the quality difference is amazing 10x better. With every driver release it seems they found a couple new ways to lower quality for performance. who cares about a couple stupid meaningless 3dmark points. i bought my 9700pro for its quality, i paid that extra for its aa/af performance. You’ve all become so obsessed with your 3dmark score that you’ll download every driver hack and tweak lowering ur quality for that extra point, now atis getting in the action. We are at the point now that’s its just a blurry jagged mess.
Textures are all blurry, lost its vibrant colors ( washed out like nvidia) and lost its sharp and crispness. i also found objects render at closer distances now. ex. in battlefield when ur flying u can see hills render, morph gain shape.
People just stop encouraging them by saying how great these new drivers are cuz u gained ur stupid little 5 points in 3dmark. 3dmark has become the most bias performance displayer out there. Please ati stick to ur roots that’s what’s kept u alive all this time? U guys have never had the performance lead in 3d gaming but people kept buying. Cuz ur a quality product in every since of the word. I’v been an ati customer since ati rage. Iv owned gf 2 and 3 and brought them both back cuz it was like night and day when it came to quality, and smoothness. ATIs 30fps felt like nvidias 50.

well amsties, first off welcome to driverheaven

but I too would have to STRONGLY disagree with your post. I mean IQ has never been better on my r9700 pro! I don't even bench 2k1 or 2k3 anymore just play games so I couldn't tell you how newer drivers affect my bench scores but I can tell you how they improve my game IQ.

maybe you've gotten some conflicts there on your pc or something?? maybe try drivercleaner and a clean driver install because it simply is not as you posted above....

I did notice a drop in quality from the 3.4's to the 3.5's. Really. Actually, I went back to the 3.4's because I think they look better. I could tell a huge difference in RTCW ET- with everything maxed in game and 4xAA and 16xAF w/quality sliders set to highest in driver.

The IQ DID go down, just a little- I could tell. I don't even bench my cards anymore- Not for top score, just for a reference from one driver / system change to the next. I might run driver cleaner again and reinstall the 3.5's to see if it was a glitch- but I did it twice already. I think the 3.4's look a tad bit better.

To go as far as the original post?- I dunno- I think IQ is still a main concern with ATI- I think the speed gains for AA that were had with the new 3.5 cat's came from somewhere though- and it's always an IQ vs. speed ratio, no matter how you slice it. I understand the concern, but let's see what happens with the next driver before we crucify ATI.

That's probably the only post he'll ever make. I agree that the CAT 3.5s do degrade in IQ with regards to a few games, etc. Added to the fact that they are just really buggy (DDC issue, NWNs issues, OpenGL issues, etc, etc, etc). Maybe that's why it's taking Omega so long to get out a release based on the 3.5s. (Heh, the topic title is funny...beginning of the end....lol, some people)

Maybe he picked the wrong topic name but as you can see more than one person in one way or another agrees with him as far as quality goes. His first post and what do you do you jump his butt right away, good thing nothing he posted was inflammatory or I'd really hate to see what you do to him, it was just his opinion and one that is shared by a couple of others. I'm using 3D Studio Max and I can just say:

But I'm having exactly the same Problem.

I changed my grafix card from the 8500 to the 9700 Pro.
Yes, there is a performance boost! Yes, the 9700 Pro is a great gaming card!

BUT...
With the 8500 Smoothvision realy worked! With the 9700 Pro is doesn't.

With the 8500 the wireframes within 3D Max realy looked like a higher screen resolution. With the 9700 Pro (btw. the SAME driver Version 3.2) it changes to a blurry NVidia something, I can't work with anymore.

This forced me to turn off the Smoothvision.

==> STOPP kinking him and show US a solution!

btw. it's NOT the omega driver, becouse it's the ATI driver code that's still not working as proposed.

I dont think 3.5 CAT will be the start of the end for ATI, I mean, we have seen bad drivers for ATI, really BAD ones

besides, that it doesnt work perfectly for u doesnt mean it wont work on others PC

edit: another think yeah the quality did went backwards since 3.0 cats are out, but hey Its faster now, so no complain ;p

I pretty much agree with you. 3dMark is synthetic. People get WAY too hyped over this. Although I don't believe that ATi is turning into nVidia.

Just a few things to point out here, I forget what your name was. You talk about how ATI should stop listening to people and told those people to shove it. If they were to do that they'd alienate the only reason they're a company, consumers. Without us, they don't have a company. Same thing with Nvidia, if they don't listen to what we have to say we'll go to another, albeit worse company for our hardware. So I do believe you are the one who should be sticking your thumb where the sun doesn't shine. And while you're at it, you might want to consider putting your foot in your mouth and looking at reason before you post. And who cares if you leave? You've had what, seven posts ever?
