won't hold overclock on reboot

sorry, i'm a noob with these omega drivers.

got sapphire ati radeon 9500 modding to 9700 with omega drivers(windows xp) ... blah, blah, blah

installed the drivers and everything's ok, i get a pretty good boost in 3dmark benchmark etc.

overclocks fairly well too except for when i reboot it has set the clockings back to default

here's what i'm doing:

display properties/settings/advanced (to new panel)

clock rate tab/check enable clock rate change

change core and memory setting with slide bar

push set and get popup saying "clock successfully changed....."

check the Boot buttong to "current"

get another popup saying "computer will now boot to these settings ... "

click ok to close down all setting windows

reopen setting windows to verify ... overclock setting still there.

reboot

all setting back to default

tried reinstalling several times

catalyst first without ati control panel, follow by omega 2.4.4.3

any suggestion for a poor, stupid noob

well,

i remember seeing somewhere on one of the omega's thread that the radclock included in his driver
will stop working when you reboot. The workaround is to replace the radclock with the newer version
or you can download other overclocking tools such as rivatuner (from www.guru3d.com), powerstrip, and rage3dtweak (from www.rage3d.com).

if you want to hold the overclocked speeds forever, you need to flash your bios. All of these other video card utilities only overclock once they are in their OS. I guess that's good... but that's just my way.

its not the best idea but you can hardlock a safe 10% o/c ... anything higher is not good .... if you have problems you beome at an inpass (ie card wont boot and cant fix it ) you could hose the card ialso f not carefull ... i would stick to windows app based o/c...

that's why it's avoided nowadays, some people are reckless with their overclocks..

i know ... i allways hack my bios ... up the speeds a little ... like 380/340 i put them at hard ware spec

380mhz /350 mhz (what the ram is rated at) thats just the EFFECTIVE clockrate i forget what the real clock sets are

then o/c the rest in windows

there is more than one thread in here about the problems with the OC proggy Omega included in his 3.4 set. you need to install the stand alone radclock utility to get it to work. by far the simplest OC util out there for ATI cards
