Help - Radeon 9500 and color bleed

I just received my new Saphirre Radeon 9500 card from Newegg. I was able to apply the W1zard patch in Windows 2000 and upgrade it to Radeon 9700 speed without any problem. However, before I ran the patch, with the unadultered Catalyst 3.4 driver, I was getting lines running down from text while using my web browser and email client. When I went into the ATI control panel, the color tab would have the test colors run straight up the screen.

I was able to run the latest Omega Drivers on Windows 98 and things seem OK, so I tried to install the Omegas on Windows 2000 and I am still getting the lines running up the screen in various applications.

I did not have any checkerboard pattern on the 3DMark 2001 tests and my fill rates were in the right values for a successful upgrade.

I have an Athlon XP 1700, Soyo Dragon Plus, 640 MB of DDR, 350 Watt Antec PS and 3 Hard Drives and 2 Optical Drives. I tried unhooking the spare hard drive to give the Radeon some more juice. I never had problems with the current power supply. I am using a KVM switch and will try and check things out without it.

Any help would be appreciated. I do not want to go through an RMA process if this card is not defective.

That's the thing, I have the problem without the r9700. Using the native Catalyst drivers 3.2, 3.4, & 3.5 I get variations of the color bleed. When I run 3Dmark 2001 and BF1942, everything looks fine. I am wondering if this is an issue with my card or my setup. I am hoping it's not the card since it seems to unlock without problem.

Most times I've see something like this happening is because I've overclocked my card too much. Your card is most likey struggling to work at its normal rate and my need to be underclocked slightly to stablise it. You my have to flash your bios to enable different clock speeds which willl void your warranty, or you could try extra cooling around the graphics card to see if that helps any.

Acctually if removing the patch didn;t fix it you probably had a dead card. I remember someone else having a similar problem and they fixed it by RMAing the card. As a last resort you might want to try raising the agp voltage to 1.6 or 1.7.

I am going to try the card in another computer. It is a shuttle SK41G with a 200 watt PS, so it may not help. But I want to make sure it is the card.

How do I adjust the voltage for the AGP, in the computer's bios?

Yes in the BIOS.

Well, i threw the card in my Shuttle and it seems to work better. I noticed just one slight vertical line. I am running Win98 with the latest Omegas.

My 3DMark is 600 points lower than in my Soyo Dragon Plus with Win98, but that is to be expected. I just hope the shuttle temps don't become a huge issue.

I tried to change the voltage in the Soyo bios, but I was unable to locate where to do it. The Soyo Dragon + uses the Award Software Bios. I did not see any tabs for voltage adjustments for my AGP. Any suggestions.

I ran the Radeon 9700 demos and all I can say is WOW. They are awesome!

Well, I tried my friends Radeon 9700 card in my computer and it works fine, so I assume the artifacts I am getting is a problem with the card. I am RMAing it. Hopefully I will get another softmoddable 9500 from newegg.

Thanks for all your help.
