Slowdown with latest Omega drivers & Mobility 9000
I tried installing the latest Omega drivers today for my WinXP/Mobility 9000-based system, and while they fixed a key problem I was having with Neverwinter Nights (automatic crashes whenever a city area is loading) they also introduced another problem (NWN, and my entire system for that matter, runs much more slowly now). A few notes on the process...
1.) I was pressed for time this morning, and XP didn't want to let me uninstall the ATI Control Panel via the Add/Remove Programs icon, so I blithely ignored Omega's instructions. When I get home tonight, I'll probably go back to my original out-of-the-box drivers, install the latest ATI Control Panel on top of it (just to give XP a hook), uninstall the Control Panel, AND THEN try installing the Omega drivers again. But just to satisfy my curiosity while I'm stuck here at the office: could NOT removing the old Control Panel been the cause of my subsequent slowdown? The drivers worked great otherwise.
2.) I know that the problem I'm seeing in NWN is caused by the OpenGL driver in my original ATI driver set. If I were to just use those original drivers, copy the ATIOGLXX.DLL file from the Omega distribution and throw THAT in my System32 folder, would this solve my problem (assuming none of the other DLLs are contributing to the problem)?
3.) Once they're installed, are the Omega drivers also optimized for Mobility chipsets? Or do you have to make some adjustments in the Control Panel? If so, what are those adjustments?
Thanks for any information you can provide... I know my issues with the Omega drivers probably stem from ignoring key parts of the installation instructions, but I think they're going to rock once I get them up and running.
