??? cs + cat3.5

After installing the new cat set it turned out that it actually buggers up counterstrike. If you use the arrow keys for movement insted of wasd, you'll have noticed it as well. When holding down shift to walk if you press another button you come out of it and start running even when your still holding shift and other wacky things, like the num lock button becomes the pause button... I played around alot thinking it was something else... but no.

I'm not quite sure how, but low and behold after going back a cat set it works correctly again. I should probibly bring this to ati's attention as its very strange. Anyone else able to reproduce my problems with 3.5 cat?

It did it on 3 different keyboards.

here's the quick fix i used to get around the arrow keys acting like shift keys; try it and let me know if it fixes ur prob. hold down the number lock key for 5 seconds then release, fire up Q3 and see if the trouble went away. it has to do with an accessibility feature:

NUM LOCK for Five Seconds Switch the ToggleKeys either on or off

hth,
bp_ronjon

the problem remains in the 3.5 drivers as well as 3.4 but this temporary band-aide of a fix works in either.

*note* i've already emailed ATI

while i thought i had discovered the problem..mostly i know it's catalyst related, i remain unsure as to what to do to fix the problem. i thought it was and accessibility feature that was causing the shift key to be tied to arrow keys, but if so, it would have likely reared its head long before now. i am stummped and will wait for 3.5 omegas and see if that helps.

from what i can gather the problem is intermittent and no one thing i do can make it start or stop as i would ilke. any help on this one would be greatly appreciated.

cheers,

I would highly doubt this to be an error with the Catalysts, i've never really heard of video drivers affecting keymappings.

I'd suggest the solution above in regards to the Accessibility options. Likewise, you could go to Control Panel -> Access. Options and go through each Settings button and deselect the Use keyboard shortcut. You'll probably notice a problem with your current layout if you press Shift 5 times in quick succession.

If that doesn't work, then try deleting the config.cfg file and remap your keys and perform a scandisk. I had issues with CS's sprite files causing errors when there were none.

If not, then I guess it would be a first for me, vid card affecting key mapping.

It was for me too. On a fresh and used partition of windows the same error occured, but only when the cat 3.5's were installed. Upon reinstalling 3.4 the issue would go away. Its strange I know. Though it is very certian it is the cat 3.5 thats causing this in some way.

kelston,

While at first I thought I had narrowed it down to accessibility settings, i'm not so sure any longer. The 9600 pro is my first ATI product btw, and I a fairly happy with it. I've used nvidia since the diamond viper 330 days and not until now have I ever experienced this kind of a problem. I did as u suggested and I checked to make sure all my accesibility functions under XP were/are turned of and indeed they were turned off and still are. The problem remains though, albeit intermittently so.

I did email my problem to ATI and also, what I thought at the time, the corrective action. Since then it has been as problematic as ever.

Cheers,
BP_Ronjon

Well, I guess CS really does hate the 3.5s.

I'm getting wacky OGL crashes, and I think one of them got me banned from the server I play on.

I'm getting hang errors in atioglxx.dll haha

Guess i'll switch back to Omegas 3.4 for now.

Cause in CS, Direct3D = uber dark. And i'm not a fan of playing in a gamma high enough that everything has a pastel white color so I can see in dark corners.

That and most of the graphic commands in CS are for opengl.

well mate, you can always adjust the colour settings in the ATI control panel to make things look brighter and better....

Your kiddin right? I mean I dont want to be limited to 1024x768. Sides... it does not look better in d3d on my machine. It looks the same and runs worse.

the same here.

And I'm experiencing very slow menus with the catalyst 3.5, specially when you press esc in the game and then clicks resume. Much more slower than default, it's intended to be instantaneous, but with the Cat's 3.5 it's taking above 10 seconds (sufficient for if I want to change to another server, I loose the avaliable slot).
