Latest Catalyst won't istall in Windows 2000 with a 4670
Greetings:
I have a 4670 that won't install in Windows 2000 SP4 fully updated (fresh insallation). Catalyst saying "Setup could not find a driver compatible with your hardware or operating system", and I tried both the full and driver only packages of Windows 2000 Catalyst 6.2 and Win XP Catalyst 9.4. I don't need 3D, i.e. OpenGL, Direct3D, etc., but AVIVO and/or hardware acceleration in certain HTPC apps would be nice to keep, but not uterly necessary. Also if it helps, I think I can do by without the full CCC, but would like that functionality. Lastly, the card has an HDMI output I would like to use, but again, not totally necessary. If it is possible to install CCC (or just plain drivers) in Windows 2000 with a 4670, please let me know how. If not, or if it would take brain surgery, what is the newest or best version (modded or not) I can install for a 4670 under Windows 2000. And please, please no comments to the effect of "why not just switch to XP/Vista?" I can't and am forced to work with Windows 2000. Thanks. |

Re: Latest Catalyst won't istall in Windows 2000 with a 4670
Downloaded from ATI and:
Tried 9.4 (both CCC and just plain drivers) No Windows 2000 option only XP Tried 6.2 (both CCC and just plain drivers) For Windows 2000/XP this is the highest version they give for Windows 2000 and I think it wouldn't install because it doesn't support the 4670. Lokking at the C2_30152.inf in the installation directory, it looks like the X1950 is the highest card it will recognize. I've been reading about Omega, DNA and other such drivers. From what I've researched, it appears that 8.4 was the latest "successfully" installed on WIN2K (although on a 3850), but I wasn't sure whether it was an ATI OEM driver or a modded hacked installation, and I'm not sure it would work on my 4670 as it's a newer card. In another thread, I think they mentioned DNA 8.12, and using it with 4800 series cards. So is their a modded driver installation out there that uses the newer drivers but has the code/installation routine for Windows 2000? Or if need be, I can transplant drivers and modify code if someone will help. :-) |

Re: Latest Catalyst won't istall in Windows 2000 with a 4670
I downloaded serveral previous versions of Catalyst and version 8.10 is the first to have the 4670 listed in the CX_*****.inf
[ATI.Mfg.NTx86] "ATI Radeon HD 4670" = ati2mtag_R7X, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9490 and this is the only mention of the 4670 in the inf, and it's the same entry in all the CX_*****.inf from 8.10 all the way up to the newest 9.4 I was comparing the different infs and the only thing that stood out was the following * In the WIN2K inf from Catalyst 6.12 it has [DestinationDirs] DefaultDestDir = 11 ati2mtag.Miniport = 12 ; drivers ati2mtag.Display = 11 ; system32 then a little lower [ATI.Mfg] All the different card entries are under this heading * In the WINXP inf from Catalyst 9.4 it has [DestinationDirs] DefaultDestDir = 11 ati2mtag.OGL = 10 ;Windows ati2mtag.Miniport = 12 ; drivers ati2mtag.Display = 11 ; system32 ati2mtag.OD = 11 ; system32 then a little lower [ATI.Mfg.NTx86] All the different card entries are under this heading Last edited by JB2007; May 10, 2009 at 02:53 PM. |
