Radeon 9700pro and omega 2.2.43 question
I just downloaded the latest omega drivers (based on the cat3.4 drivers) and the install seemed to go fine, everything works smothly...HOWEVER... My question is "why does my card show up as 9500/9700"?
I used the "HACKED" drivers and thought it would go from 9700pro (which is what was shown before) to 9800. Am I right? Am I reading something wrong? In "display properties" my adapter is shown as 9500/9700 but it says that the chipset is 9800... And in device manager it is shown as 9500/9700 I thought at the very least it would/should show 9700/9800 otherwise things seem the same as before. I followed the readme file and all installation instructions to the letter (I am new to Ommega drivers but by no means a newb to building a pc..) Please email me and let me know what I've done wrong or can do to remedy this. Thank you!! Again, otherwise things seem fine and I do like the other addins like the artifact checker... Another question would be, "can I manually update the drivers with the 9800 omega drivers? Thanks! Jbarboni@juno.com

I have the same thing here, adapter type 9700/9500 but chip type 9800.
I think thats normal. And I'm not sure what you mean by Quote:

As long as it says chipset is 9800 it worked. If you want to do it to the original ATi Cat 3.4, I have a hacked file available at my site : http://sunrise.stolemy.tv

By manually update, I mean go to device manager, click update drivers in the display adapters tab then tell windows that I will locate the driver.. tell it have dist and point to the area where the omega drivers opened (C:\program files\radeon omega drivers is the default local) uncheck "show only compatable box" and then point to the 9800 or 9800 pro omega drivers and let them install.
This worked for me, the drivers seemed to run fine BUT using the omega drivers (any of them) with fast writes off and everything set to performance AND my card overclocked slightly (330/330 instead of 324/310) My 3dmark scores have actually dropped by a little more than 200points, Ive lost 17fps in the first bench alone... Is this because I am using a 9700pro, is a 9700pro with the origional drivers better than the 9800 omega tweak? Or is something wrong?? Thanks. |

Well Omega's are tweaked to improve quality, which would explain the performance loss.

But almost everyone else is showing performance increases... Also, woould things run better if I use the 9800 omega drivers?

Whoops, I didn't mean to end there..LOL I did the manual update and my 3dmark scores jumped by over 300 points without overclocking anything!
