Default Post BIOS? Update or not?

Ok, quick question - I have a Radeon 8500 (retail) with the default BIOS.

Do I need to update the BIOS? Is there any benefit from doing so?

I have mine running a later BIOS. You don't need too, but sometimes they improve stuff (IQ, speed, etc), but if u don't follow directions (like uninstalling your display drivers BEFORE you flash your BIOS) then you'll have problems.

rightclick your desktop. click properties. go to settings. click advanced. go to options. click details. now, if it says that your bios version is 7.004 or higher, then don't bother upgrading. if it says 1.009, UPGRADE NOW cuz that bios (for me) had lots of windows gui bugs and corruption.

I did the BIOS upgrade yesterday but it still says 1.009
I used the file I could download from the link provided by this forum thread(Sticky) called 'ATI 8500 BIOS download'
I uninsatlled the graphic driver(Catalyst 2.1) clean before the BIOS upgrade.

Is it possible you have 'video bios shadow' enabled in your system bios settings? If so, disable and try again.

I can't find 'video bios shadow' in my system BIOS menu.
