Black bars displaying in fullscreen games.

Hello everyone. I'm having a problem.

Whenever I launch a fullscreen game, vertical black bars appear at the left and right side of the screen, effectively "squaring" the image. The computer always displays the correct resolution otherwise, whether web browsing or watching video. If the game allows it, I can display the screen in the widescreen format (my monitor is widescreen, it is a laptop), which makes the vertical bars disappear, but also inserts horizontal black bars at the top and bottom. I've tried re-installing both Omega and official ATI drivers and the problem persists.

I have an ATI 3100. Any ideas or fixes?

Re: Black bars displaying in fullscreen games.

Also, I should also mention that I downgraded to XP from Vista. I did not have display issues in Vista.

Also, something strange. If I keep it in 800x600, I get the black bars. But if I switch to 16:9, the resolution changes to 1024x768 with no option to go lower than that. The black bars still persist, too.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't see the edit button. Sorry for the double post.

Welcome to DriverHeaven!

Whenever I've had this happen on my CRT monitors, I can go to the Monitor Properties/Adjustment option and make the necessary changes so that the image fits the screen.

Thank you! My menu was slightly different as it is a notebook, but that solved my problem.

Thank you very much!
