Welcome.

Sorry it took so long to reply but I had trouble viewing your system specs.

Here's a link to check out for your Motherboard. This could very well be a motherboard driver problem in combination with the HD3850.

Welcome to EPoX International, Inc. Home of EPoX Products in the USA and Canada.

Re: HIS Radeon HD 3650 driver problem..

i read the MB's manual about 5-6 times...It supports AGP4x. AGP version is 2.0. The MBs specs are:

Socket Type:
Socket 478

Chipset:
Intel 845 Chipset

Processor:
Intel® Pentium® 4

Max FSB:
400MHz

Memory:
2 x DDR SDRAM PC2100, 2GB max.

AGP/VGA Slot:
1 (4x mode @ 1.5v)

PCI Slot:
5 (32-bit)

IDE:
2 x E/IDE Ultra DMA/100, 4 drives max.

USB:
2 onboard, 2 optional. USB 1.1

Audio:
Realtek ALC201A full-duplex integrated sound

BIOS:
Award/Phoenix BIOS v6.0

Size:
ATX

maybe the MB Chipest driver are bad ? A update of BIOS may help ?
My previous card was Manli GeForce2 MX/MX400

Sorry if I wrote something wrong (grammaticaly)

That's why I posted the link to EPoX. Try updating the motherboard/chipset drivers and update the BIOS. See if that helps.

The EPoX links are dead, so i can't download the updates for BIOS/Chipset/Motherboard...I will try to find these files from other websites...

You can get the Intel Chipset Drivers for the 845 Chipset directly from Intel....

Welcome to Intel

You're very welcome. Hope you enjoy your games now.

Now, here's one more small bit of advice: "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it." In other words, now that it's working, don't bother trying to use updated drivers. It might just cause more problems than it's worth.

Considering that the following is the System Requirements for the game:

OS: Windows XP/Vista
CPU: 2.8 GHz or higher (Windows Vista requires 3.0 GHz)
RAM: 512 MB RAM or higher (Windows Vista requires 1 GB RAM)
HDD: 8.1 GB free disk space or more
Graphics: 128 MB or higher (Pixel Shader 2.0, AGP and PCIe only)
DirectX: Version 9.0c
DVD-Drive: 8x
Multiplayer: Internet Connection 512 Kbps, 2-8 Players
Input: Keyboard, Mouse
Optional: USB Steering Wheel / Dual Analogue Gamepad

.....I'd say your performance is about right. Your CPU is the biggest culprit in your system. It just can't handle the requirements.

And, Gamespot's Review has this to say:

"Doesn't run well unless most visual options are turned down or off"

So, your system is quite out-dated and it's no surprise it's struggling with this game.

I actually downloaded a demo for the game and, during installation, it requested I insert the game CD. So, I chucked it.

EDIT/UPDATE: I found another download link for the demo and just played through the initial race...which I won handily.

Settings at 1280x1024, 85Hz, World Details and such at least Medium. 4x AA, etc. Not one hiccup during the race. So, I have to say my previous assessment was spot on. Your CPU and system is quite outdated and doesn't meet the Sys. Req. for the game.

FPS were averaging around 38-42

I assume your Pentium 4 3.0 is the same architecture as the original P4. Did you apply thermal compound/paste during the installation of the new one?

With the BIOS update you got, are you sure that the motherboard supports the new CPU? Depending on the differences, it could be a matter of voltage regulation that needs to be adjusted for the newer one.

But, the 'weird sound' you mention: How is it 'weird'?

Yeah, that's why I'm asking about the BIOS update. That board is really 'ancient'.

ouch.. um your motherboard is trying to cook the processor. 1.4V vs 1.8v is quiet a large jump. Thats barely less than 130% of the power that it is supposed to get. Unless you can get that down to at least 1.4v -1.5v I would say that there is no way that processor is going to work in that board. I'm not even sure that board could provide that little amount of power stably to the processor.

I would say get a new board for that Processor, but the only agp boards I can find are for socket 775 and AMD based sockets (939/AM2). The only decent board is Newegg.com - ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2 LGA 775 VIA PT880 Pro/PT880 Ultra ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards from ASRock. It supports the Core2 chips and DDR/DDR2 along with AGP and PCI-E. Although from what I read it is one picky board.

If it's not supported it's not much you can do really. A new motherboard is probably the only solution.
