Problem with X1550 in CS 1.6

I'm Using Windows XP Pro

I've had this video card for a while but I don't know why i cant run Counterstrike 1.6 very smooth at all...

It is a Radeon x1550 256MB PCI slot not Pci-E or AGP...which is wierd...because my computer is only about 4 or 5 years old..but anyways

I have 3.0ghz (P-4) with and odd amount of ram...I have 1024mb of ram but CPU-Z shows it up as 1024 but DXDIAG shows it up as 1016?

I went into CCC to change around my settings to see if i could find out why im running this game sooo sluggish and slow i get about 15-20fps when i shud be hitting about 72-99fps but the thing is the graphics card i had in my Tower before was a nVidia GeForce FX 5500 128MB and it runs it better then my x1550 which I have no clue why...

Here is my DXDIAG-

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!

Since you have XP and you posted in old thread that is considered as "dead" I moved your post in new thread in XP/W2K ATi drivers category.

What ATi drivers you have been using? And was that FX5500 card AGP? Since the AGP bus is much faster than the normal PCI bus. That could explain the fps readings in to some point.

Those drives might be the reason ithink, they are a bit too new for your card. There hasn't really been any updates for the whole X1XXX line since CAT 7.11 So using older drivers might help. And since you are low on RAM I would advice not to install the Catalyst Control Center. There are many good 3rd party applications that you can use instead like ATi Tray Tools.

Well at least to the CAT 7.XX drivers. I think that the CAT 7.11 drivers are good to start with. But finding the best driver for your card is just simple trial and error. You might want to look to the modified drivers like Omega's drivers that are baced for the 7.XX CAT's

You can find the Driverheavendownloads.net useful since it has nice archive of drivers, original ATI and modded ones

alright well sorry to double post but im going to ask you a question real quick on un-installing drivers and stuff cause the last time i tried to uninstall a driver i had to wipe my computer cause it went to a black screen and when i reboot i couldnt get my login screen.. lol so can you help me out here? I want to un-install 8.6 and re-install the 7.XX driver's to find out which one will be best...i downloaded the only 7.XX omega drivers i could find which was 7.1 and 7.12 but i also went to ATI and downloaded 7.6-7.12. I just want to make sure i uninstall the right one this time...or can i just install over the 8.6 ?

In the add/remove programs menu in controll panel you will see the ATI driver installations. Uninstall all of them and don't reboot untill all of them are uninstalled.

Windows should fall back to VGA safe driver after reboot, it will prompt that found new hardware just click cancel on those and install the drivers.

Well, i did what you said..and now i cant get my video card to work whenever i re-install the drivers i only get the boot screens but it doesnt go to my log in screen, so i had to switch it to onboard video to even get my log in screen, the only downside to it is i cant play my other games with this onboard graphics, anyway i can get my x1550 to work again?

---Never mind lol i figured out that my onboard Graphics are way better then this Radeon x1550 lols... i run all my games ten times smoother than this card... thank you for your help! ---
