ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 problems
Hey guys, it looks as though i have a slight problem with my graphics card, and even though i see that i'm not the only one with this problem, i would like to ask for some help.
I have an ASUS X51R, Intel Core Duo at 2gh, 1024 RAM, and ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 as the grahics card, and i'm using Win XP sp2. Problem is that i tried to update the driver, i downloaded a certain Catalyst update (i can't seem to remember the page, but i'm pretty sure you know what i'm talking about) and i couldn't make it work. Basically i tried to install it, it turned out that i received an error message, saying something like "couldn't detect "can't remember what" on your system".
From what i could see, it looks as though i'm not the only one with a problem here. Well, basically i'd like to ask anybody who knows, what can i do? And what other drivers could i download in order to make my graphics card a bit more updated and possibly more performant.
Thanx in advance.

Which driver version were you trying to install? I have the 1100 in my laptop and I use to not be able to install new drivers, just the one provided by the laptop manufacturer. However I haven't had any problems installing the newer driver directly from ATI/AMD. I am currently using the 8.6 drivers from ATI/AMD website. Try these, AMD GAME Drivers & Tools they are the ones I'm currently using without an problems.

hmm, sounds like the ID for your hardware is not part of the official ATI driver inf file. The ID can be added to the driver but I'm not an expert on that.
Have you tried the latest driver from ASUS? These here, ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- these should have the proper ID for your hardware and install fine. If they don't then there's some other problem.

yeah, that's where i downloaded the drivers i'm currently using. everything is running fine, just that i wanted to install an update for the videocard, and ever since i've been stuck with the wish.
should i send the guys at ati an email or something? what do you think?

you could try sending them an email but not sure I'd hold my breath. You could try the Omega drivers posted in the forum, they are from the beginning of the year so aren't the newest. KillerSneak, the guy that makes the DNA drivers are currently working on new modded drivers, I don't want to speak for him but if you asked really nicely he might be able to add your hardware ID. To be honest though I've been using the newer drivers on my Xpress 1100 and haven't noticed any performace improvements over the older drivers. ATI isn't gonna spend anytime on our older hardware.
