Old driver keep reinstalling

I have been searching this forum trying to find a solution to my problem. But without luck. Or perhaps I have used the wrong words to search with.
Anyway, I have a problem getting rid of my old ATI drivers. When ever I restart after removing the old drivers, they selfinstall. On every guides I have found so far it says to enter cansel when this happens. But I do not get this option. Is there somthing I can do to avoid this?
I have Dell Inspiron 6000.
ATI mobility radeon x300
XP windows home
This is what I do:
I remove all ATI under ADD/Remove panel.
Uninstall the driver from device manager.
Used driver sweeper

Thanks in advance for all help

you need so go into the hardware device manager and select your graphics card, then click Uninstall for the driver, sometimes you need to do it more than once...

that will keep your drivers from reinstalling.

If you are using the ATI CCC drivers, don't worry about it.

Just install the new ones right on top of the old ones.

One of the ATI folks, I think it was CATALYST MAKER ,that posts here off and on said that a few months ago. The newer drivers will do an uninstall of the old ones during the installation.

There was a problem with the 8.1's, so if you are updating FROM that set, you will have to go into add/remove programs, and uninstall the CATALYST CONTROL CENTER, other than that no other ininstall should be necessary.

Thanks for your reply, folks. I will try some more times. (I have allready tried at least 15 times to uninstall from device manager:-))
When I try to install on top of the old driver I get the message that my PC do not suppport this update. I was hoping to use the Mobility Modder at Driverheaven to get around this problem. But if I can't get rid of all the old stuff I can't extract the new drivers. Or will it help if I download the new drivers from this site instead of at ati.com?

Yeayyy!!! I think I finaly made it. Thanks for your help. I had to download the newest driver from this site and not from ATI.... And I deleted some ATI things from HEYC_something_something. Lol I had some scary incidents during my removing the old driver. (not being able to start in safe mode is one) But I hung in there and now my device manager tells me I have driver nr 8.4!! I am so proud of my self:-)
