Catalyst or Omega for new gfx card ?
I`m in the process of buyng a new pc setup, the gfx card being a Sapphire HD 3450....
I have been doing a bit of reading about the drivers and noticed the Omega alternatives, what I wanted to know was whether I would be better off using either the Omega or Catalyst drivers when it comes time to install ? I am not a gamer, and I won`t be overclocking...BUT, I really do not want all of the CCC stuff that comes with the Cat drivers....had enough of all that madness with the nvidia installs. So would anyone suggest one was better than the other in my situation, and are the "driver only" catalyst drivers really drivers only...and no unecessary services and all kinds of stuff that I`ll just have to remove manually anyway ? What`s the best way for me to go ? any suggestions/advice welcome for an ATI noob....Thanks... |

If you are not a gamer and won't overclock then the "driver only" Catalyst package is all you need. And in case you need to tweak the default settings you can get the ATI Tray Tools for that.

up to you, driver only + ATT if you need options is extra clicking to install, while omega is just a single installer that comes with ATT

Thanks...that`s what I was hoping to hear, just basic drivers and Tray Tools if needed.
So, there`s no real issues concerning speed or stability between the both of them if they are run with default values and no tweaking ? |

The Omega drivers not only include ATT, but also the ancient Control Panel and you can't install the driver without it. The CP development was stopped years ago therefore it doesn't have all the options for the new cards.
And as far as I can tell, performance and stability is about the same. |

Thankyou for the information.....I`ll go with the drivers only option & ATT.
Then maybe test the Omegas in the future when I have the system up & working properly. |
