AMD Turion 64 Mobile + ATI Xpress 200M + Catalyst problem

Hi everybody!

I have a really weird and annyoing problem on my HP Compaq nx6125 Laptop with the latest Catalyst drivers. Already did lots of research the whole day, still found no solution:

Whenever i start a game or even when i play a video the cpu clock goes up to max (which is 2,2 ghz) and stays that way, even after i've closed game or video. The Windows XP power profile is set to "Portable/Laptop", so it should set the cpu clock back to 800 mhz when idle on the desktop. It does this correctly after i re-select just the same power profile and before i start a game or video.

Also, the Catalyst driver doesn't seem to detect the display correctly, as it allows me to set the resolution higher than actually supported.

Apart from that, everything works normal. I just don't understand this and i'd like to use dynamic clocking when watching videos, so the cpu fan doesn't run the whole time, making noise.

I tried Catalyst 8.2 and 7.12, also the latest Omega driver. Always the same problem.

It works with the drivers provided by HP, but they are outdated and i get a significant framerate boost from the new drivers in games.

Maybe i should mention, that the cpu is an "AMD Turion 64 Mobile ML-40" and the gpu a "ATI Radeon Xpress 200M".

BTW: I know i should get a decent machine for gaming, just cannot afford it at the moment. Still love to play!

Thanks for any ideas!
Markus
