Well I played COD4 for a couple hours and I don't need fraps running to know that these drivers do get a little jerky in spots, and I was liquid before.

The new 8.2 driver wont install on my Sapphire HD 2600 PRO AGP
So much for all being fixed for AGP in the next release *sighs* Still using the hotfix on a current card that was bought less than 6 months ago this is beyond a joke now and totally unacceptable
We can only hope that Omegadrive releases a 8.2 version
I read that some AGP cards will accept this driver but like i say my Sapphire wont please let me know if any of you guys have same problems
Typical i think i will give up hoping for things to be fixed if by the 8.3 things are still the same

For that card that you have I would say no need to install CAT 8.2

Installed over 8.1 and setup complains the already installed CCC is newer than what it wants to install?

Why the heck is 8.2 installing an older CCC?

FYI to ATI. The 8.2s are the first to work on my NF2 board since the 7.6s. All Direct X tests passed. Just to let you know ATI, this did cost you as my NF2 is not my gaming rig anymore. I didn't purchase anything ATI for my new gaming rig.

I'm getting a feeling that:

7.11 is the best openGL driver out of recent efforts, while the hotfix AGP driver is the only good AGP driver since the AGP troubles started.

Was really hoping for a "last update" for my X700 - maybe 7.11 is it, as the games I've collected seem to be biased towards OpenGL. Still holding at 7.3 for now, first release where CCC was really smooth and well .net 2.0 tuned.

In XP you must uninstall 8.1 CCC before installing 8.2. It seems that the 8.1 version of CCC actually is not identifying itself properly so 8.2 CCC thinks 8.1 is newer.

8.1's were very good with COD4, but the 8.2's get awful jerky in spots. And they really screwed up HDR on some of the maps leaving the outdoor evironments over exposed.

* Start of Rant* Well I see no improvement all are alike since 7.1 up to now 8.2 ATI has IMO went down the drain and I am sorry to say I cannot stomach anymore of there screw up's.
I think I am going to buy a nVidia video card as they seem to work with all the games I play and they do support AGP unlike ATI/AMD. If they could just make a driver so that I could play the Total War Series without rebooting my system once it tries to enter the map or BSOD that would be great. I tried to install the 6.11 but it says it is not compatible with my OS. Which is very weird since I used that for my x1600pro and it worked better then this newer up to date HD2600pro.
Why make or allow AGP cards to be made if they are not going to support them? When is ATI going to put a good driver out for AGP and XP OS? I am very disgusted with this company. This is why I left nVidia several years ago because of driver problems now ATI is worse then nVidia has ever been IMO. * End of Rant *

If you don’t get anything out of this the point is 8.2 stinks just like the last 10 drivers they have put out.

I tried yet more OpenGL stuff:
"The Valley 1.1" from speedtree.com - borked textures
ATI SDK demos:
HDR GL - very dark
Mandelbrot GL - invisible
Ray-Tracing GL - GL_ATI_shader_texture_lod is not supported

As aforementioned, put a copy of atioglxx.dll from CAT7.11 into application folder to fix issue.

For the AGP, you may have to try dropping the 7.11 atioglxx.dll into the Hotfix set, or you may find OpenGL is good but Direct3D is not.

Linden suggest that 8.2 will fix some minor 8.1 issues
Graphics Cards - Second Life Wiki

One thing that never seems to be clear, is when "hotfix" driver featires get integrated into the main set - is 8.2 usable with AGP, no idea!

Hi thanks for the info. No 8.2 driver wont install on my AGP card HD 2600 PRO 512
I read i can modify the files to force it to install however we should not have to do this.

I too wonder when the AGP issue will be fixed or at least make it so we can install the drivers I had hopes for the 8.2 drivers but have been let down and disappointed yet again

I agree with everything in the above quote drivers just keep geting worse and worse and im waiting just a bit longer like to cat 8.3/4 the most to see if they start makeing good drivers and get 3870 if not than its the GayForce team for me after all (
And this is coming from a guy whos last nvidia card was gforce 2 since then i had about 10 ATI cards but you ATI guys with your drivers are telling me out loud "DONT BUY ARE GPU's".. So please ATI im begging you put put a good set of drivers that will work and allow me to watch movies on an extended desktop (quit using overlay mixer 24/7) or i will have to go green..

This is actually the first (excluding the hotfix for 8.1) driver release that works for my Sapphire x1650pro AGP card.

No problems to report so far, everything works as it should for two days straight now.

I haven't taken any special precautions either, just uninstalled the hotfix through the normal windows uninstall thingie (whatever it's called in english; my installation is in german), rebooted, installed the (driver only release) 8.2s, reboot again, done.

Did a dxdiag test, the ATT bench as well, no trouble.

There was unfortunately no time for me to do too much gaming because work is really busy these days, but the one game I have installed, Sins of a Solar Empire (which is awesome btw) worked perfectly whenever I did get to play. Game's a rock though, I didn't expect to be able to crash it anyway ^-^

regards
Davoren

So please ATI im begging you put put a good set of drivers that will work and allow me to watch movies on an extended desktop (quit using overlay mixer 24/7) or i will have to go green..

what's this about overlay? that's dependant on the video player, not the drivers

Just put another 2 cents here - after an XP clean wipe install this driver is unable to install correctly on my system (X1300Pro) - a nasty zero display service error and resulting my Chimei 221D shows no-signal unable to display a picture does not matter which resolution.

I have to boot into safe mode to uninstall the CAT driver - then at least my monitor is back to normal under the XP default vga driver :/ slow as sH*t but shows a picture.

I feel seriously pissed by ATI rendering my system unusable. Looks like I have to buy Nvidia to get out of this?

No its not the player .. the display driver is using overlay mixer non stop.
Bsplayer cant work full screen on extended desktop and KMPlayer shows that overlay mixer is being used by the display driver and lets you choose another renderer to play movies but choosing anything else playes movies at like 5fps.

I tested if it was the display driver by installing cat 7.10 and everything works fine but any driver omega or cat after 7.12 is using overlay mixer 24/7 and i cant watch movies.

Now i have been told that its not the driver about 10 times now they say its the player but how come the overlay mixer isnt in use with 7.10 or earlyer with same players and codecs and is in use with 7.12 and later .. So yes it is the display driver .
