openGL misses with all driver execpt this one...
Hi!
I've a big problem. My laptop, ASUS X53Sa (F3sa mainboard), with ATI Radeon Mobility HD2600 512 Mb RAM dedicated, comes with Windows Vista. I just wanted to downgrade to XP, but here is the problem...all the VGA driver i've tryed, 7.10,7.11,7.12 with DHMODTOOL, OMEGADRIVER, DNA DRIVER, works, but there is no openGL support. I tryed to install ASUS driver for WinXP: ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/nb/Dr..._XP_071205.zip here is the openGL support but i've an other problem: random BSOD in 2D windows... I ask you help to: 1- understand why openGL doesn't work with all other drivers 2- BSOD thanks in advance and merry christmas to all! |

Laptops makers can do odd things with their graphics cards when building the laptop which is why its recomended that you use the laptop makers drivers (even though most of those laptop makers rarely if ever bother updating their drivers)
In this case they seem fairly new since they are dated 05.12.2007 so probably 7.11 or 7.10ish (I'm sure as heck not going to download them to check since my internet is dog slow) Its possible that the ASUS driver INF files have entries that the modified drivers don't you would have to identify what those missing things are and let the mobility modder person know so that support for your particular laptop can be included fully. Can also be caused by various OS issues why certain elements dont install usually related to the driver cache or windows driver protection issues, most of which can be a nightmare to sort out. As for the BSOD issue it could be any number of things so without more details I would have no idea.

Thanks a lot for your help...now i'm using Windows Vista, but seems impossible that, with this laptop, i can't use Windows XP for a driver problem. I asked ATI, Asus to help me, but they didn't want...Asus replyed that the laptop comes with Windows Vista and they didn't give support for other Operating System...

ATI wouldnt help since they dont offer support for laptops, thats down to the laptop maker to do since they built it not ATI. Thats also the reason why the drivers dont install without being modified since again laptop makers dont always make their graphics hardware the same and require special drivers for them to work.

I just want to emphasize that when computers are made with a certain OS in mind, the hardware choices are made with certain drivers that will support that particular hardware. Since the laptop in question came with Vista, it does stand to reason that the choice was made to provide Vista drivers but not XP....or even previous Windows....drivers for those particular hardware/device choices.
Believe me, though, I understand the frustration! I've encountered the same type of problem when moving from XP to Vista. I have at least two pricey pieces of hardware here that the manufacturers do NOT intend to provide Vista drivers for them. So, if I want to use these pieces of hardware at all, I need to do one of two things: 1. Keep an extra PC handy that uses XP; 2. Keep XP on my main PC and use a dual boot system. Presently, I have both options available and I can use these devices on an 'as needed' basis. But, it's annoying for sure! Under the circumstances, I really can't fault the manufacturer for not providing support for an OS for which they did not design the hardware to run on.

I've found a solution:
before i install the modded Driver with DHMODTOOL (Catalyst 7.11 from ati site), then i apply this registry patch: Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\OpenGLDrivers\ati2dvag] "Dll"="atioglxx.dll" "DriverVersion"=dword:00000001 "Flags"=dword:00000001 "Version"=dword:00000002 http://www.infinity-universe.com/ope...h/OGLBench.exe and other openGL screensaver... ![]() ![]() Hope this may help other people have this problem like me!

I've tested Doom3 too: everything works perfectly!!!
maybe this thread can be sticked, i think it's important; i think many people that own HD2600, 2400 mobility install the modded driver and don't notice that the openGL doesn't works... Thanks to all! |

openGL still not supported??
I'm running a brand new Acer Travelmate 7720 notebook with mobility radeon HD 2400 XT installed. After having regularl BSOD errors on my video driver (ati2dvag.dll) I also noticed openGL based (CAD) applications showed tremendous bad graphic performance.
After having two Acer warranty repairs (they tried to...) nothing was solved. I hoped to find my solution here; installed the modded ATI catalyst drivers and tried to apply the register patch. However the register keys already were there!!. Unfortunately openGL still seems to be unsupported. Who knows what's wrong?? |
