Hi there,
I've got a little problem with my Radeon 9500 card. I recently updated to Omega Drivers 3.8.412 (Catalyst 7.8 I think) from 3.8.360 and this crushed my Direct3D. Dxdiag shows "general error" in 8 (creating 3D device), Direct Draw and all 2D things work fine. Latest ATI Catalyst drivers (7.12) don't work either. Is this a known issue (I read something about problems with old AGP cards but nothing specific). Card is identified correctly (as RADEON 9500).
When I go back to 3.8.360 everything works fine as usual.
