Catalyst 7.12 Drivers for XP: Read and Discuss Here

Hello all, AMD have just unleashed their latest Graphic Card drivers, the Catalyst 7.12's catch them at the link below:

AMD GAME! Drivers and Utilities

New Features Avivo™ Update

Catalyst™ 7.12 introduces an Avivo™ update. The update allows the ATI Catalyst™ Control Center to reflect what is supported by the driver taking into account the graphics card installed in the system, and will not expose any video features that is not supported by the driver. The DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA) driver will perform a profiling mechanism to query the graphics capability and the Catalyst™ Control Center queries the caps via the interface defined between the Catalyst™ Control Center and the DXVA components. This feature will be supported on ATI Radeon™ 9500 series products and above.

Enhanced ATI OverDrive™ support for the ATI Radeon™ HD 2900 Series

This release of Catalyst™ introduces an enhanced version of ATI OverDrive™ for the ATI Radeon™ HD 2900 Series. Users can now Overclock both GPU engine and graphics memory clock speeds in CrossFire™ mode (and over-clock single ATI Radeon™ graphics accelerators as well). This version of ATI Overdrive also

Performance Improvements

The following performance improvements are noticed with Catalyst™ 7.12:
 • 3DMark2005 performance improves 5% or more with largest gains noticed when Anti-aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering are disabled on systems containing either an ATI Radeon™ HD 2400 or ATI Radeon™ HD 2600 series of products
 • Company of Heroes DX10 performance improves up to 5% on systems containing an ATI Radeon™ HD38x0 series of product
Enjoy,

Well, i got it half right, heh, I tried, Funnily enough I didn't notice the guys post below me, rather I noticed the 7.12s out on a "rival" forum, sowwy all

Anyway, as I reported my own post, needs a bit of tweaking to get right, the title for instance, which I can't change

Like the 7.8 through 7.11 drivers the 7.12 drivers do not recognize my HD 2600XT AGP!

I don't get it how can ATi keep releasing driver sets that do not recognize some Radeon's?

It's good to see that they have fixed the OpenGL/multiple monitor issue that I've been having since the 7.5s. I can now run IL2 using the 7.12s

Gave them a 9 since I don't think any set should/would be considered a 10.

Well, after the notes mentioned 3dMark 2005, I thought I might as well fire it up, only to find my FPS has been raped down to ~15 for each test, wtf?

I'll re0install when I get home from work, but so far these drivers are very, very bad, because not only that, fraps/ATT overlays for FPS counters seem not to work either, bad bad bad.

No... And by the looks of it seems that they just don't know how to fix it so they simply ignore the problem....

5 months and not even a word from ATI about this problem...

I just ordered a new system based on Intel and Nvidia and if anyone from ATI/AMD reads this just know one thing... You not only lost a customer but you also lost an "advisor" .. I build systems for my customers and I also write for a popular gaming magazine in my country...

I will make sure that this kind of disrespect will be know to as many people as possible and I'm sure that i'll be able to influence a lot, and I really mean a lot of people to go the the Intel and Nvidia side... I'll try to influence my readers choices as much as i can because I CARE about my customers... Something that you don't do anymore.

Yeah, I still get problems with Direct3D games (artifacting, stretching, texture errors etc.), but OpenGL games work just fine. I also get 2D artifacts on background images and such, but nowhere else. A bit weird, but most likely a driver issue if you ask me. So, ATI..?

EDIT: Those 2D spots only happen with drivers installed, so I bet it's a driver related issue.

There seems to be something wrong with OpenGL in this release. I didn't try any games, but it affects Blender where selecting objects causes about 10 seconds freezes. Reinstalling didn't help. I'm back to 7.10...

Edit: Tried to copy the 7.11 OGL driver to the 7.12 installation and it works fine.

1. Drivers 7.12 didn't recognize my HD 2600XT (AGP)
2. Problems are still there!

Looks like they did nothing new! Just changed the number so it looks like someone is working on the problem!

It's final... I'm buying GeForce!

Out of curiosity, those of you who are having problems getting the drivers working on your AGP cards. Have you tried wiping the hard drive and doing a clean reinstall of windows followed by the motherboard and then video card drivers?

The 7.11s work great on my brother's x1950 Pro AGP. I remember a few years back I was having a strange unexplained problem with a sound card. Their tech support couldn't solve it but when I wiped the system clean and started over all the problems went away. Thought it might be worth a try

Wouldn't hurt to reset the motherboard bios to their optimized defaults before doing this.

Bye Bye AMD/ATI. Glad you released these allowing me plenty of time to build my new rig. I think 5 chances is plenty.

Hell, I don't even give my 4 year old half as many warnings. 7.12 drivers = increase in Intel and Nvidia stock prices. I know, I won't let the door hit me in the ass on the way out.

I ran into a rather odd issue with this latest set. Certain shades of blue render looking brown to a reddish brown depending on the background also ran into the driver getting caught in an infinite loop leading to a BSOD while trying to play some H264 content with my HD3870. Downloaded the drivers again just on the chance I might have gotten a corrupted file, uninstalled, used Driver Cleaner and even did a manual search of the registry to catch anything that might have been missed. Reinstalled everything and same results. Rolled back to the 7.11's and everything was fine again. Just for the hell of it I loaded up the Vista version of the 7.12's on my Vista install and everything worked perfectly so whatever it is, is an XP specific problem. I'm a long time ATI user and have seen my share of quirks over the years but I've got to question how this last set got past WHQL testing considering the rendering issue is apparent right at the Welcome splash screen on boot up.

I have to agree Robert, I have now re-installed these drivers after a full Driver Cleaner session, and the same issue remains, turns out the drivers think my "primary" display driver is AGP, while my "secondary" is PCI, funnily enough FPS overlays work if I switch my DVI port, weird, but my FPS issues remain, back to 7.11, and my first major issue with ATI drivers, shame as I was hoping they would be a nice Christmas treat, oh well.

Oh, one final note, due to unknown reaons, my desktop acts as if I have no drivers installed at all (Lag between tabs in Firefox and programs), that more than anything is reason to get rid of them
