ATI tray tools no longer working after Omega38413 drivers

I have just downloaded and installed the Omega_38413 drivers; this installation appeared to go well with the exception of ATI tray tools. When I initiate ATItt I get the following error message:

“Access violation at address 0050FEDF in module “atitray.exe”. Read of address 00000000”

When I enter ATItt, under Tools and Options\OnScreen Display\Flash OSD the “GPU Temperature” and “Env Temperature” and “Fan Duty” are greyed-out; under hardware “system tray hardware monitoring” is greyed out.

My System restore does not work so that I cannot roll the GPU drivers back.

Any suggestions?

Never role back drivers. Uninstall and then reinstall fresh. Try uninstalling ATT and then reinstalling it. If that doesn't work then do the same for ATT and the drivers at the same time.

Thx for the response, I am busy with other things at the moment but will do a re-install of ATT and the drivers and report back in the next week or so

This is getting a bit confusing. I have yet to uninstall ATT and was checking out a few things first before I took this step.

If I go to Start\AllProgramsMenu\RadeonOmega Drivers v3.8.413 the ATITrayTools does not work properly and I get the error message as noted above, and no tray temperatures show.

But my earlier version v 3.8.360 of the drivers still shows further up in the AllPrograms menu, and if I click its ATITrayTools, everything works fine, no error message and my temperatures show, etc.

Furthermore, both Omega versions still show in ControlPanel\AddRemove Programs; and each version has its own folder within the RadeonOmegaDrivers folder within ProgramFiles.

So what driver version is actually running things, I have been looking at driver versions in the various hardware and system information files but no version numbers seem to relate to the Omega or ATI (7.8, 7.9) version numbers.

The installation of Omega updates specifically states to overwrite the previous Omega version; but should these earlier entries not be removed from the AddRemove Programs?

First question how do I know the current running version of the drivers, and second question is it okay leaving the previous versions entries in AddRemove Programs?

If both of these versions are still somehow showing up, then you have NOT uninstalled the drivers properly.

You need to run the uninstaller and then delete the folder where the drivers were extracted to.

Since you've apparently not done it correctly, you should then run CCleaner to delete any leftover .tmp/temporary files and also run the Registry app of CCleaner to clean up the Windows Registry.

CCleaner - Home

Once you actually get everything uninstalled, be sure to reboot the PC before installing anything new.

Hi Dyre

I have re-installed the Omega38413 drivers, it eventually went well, although there were some burps.

I uninstalled the two sets of older drivers, ran Driver Ceaner and CCCleaner, removed all ATI folders and appropriate files that I could still find. But I had problems loading the Omega38413 driver, I fired up ATT and it froze saying some files were missing, and in Devices, the yellow marks were against video controller. So I cleaned everything out again and started with a custom install of the ATI software that came with the card, but did not install CCC. Then installed the Omega38413 drivers, everything seemed to set and ATT is working properly and my graphics are the best they have been in FSX! Thx for the advice.

However in ADD/REMOVE Programs I still have 4 ATI entries but they have no size or date shown - I cannot remove these but suspect they are harmless since it doesn't look as though they have content. They are:

ATI Decoder
ATI Display Driver
ATI Multimedia Center 9.03
ATI Remote Wonder 2.5

But one further question - when you release the next version of ATI Omega drives should I uninstall the Omega38413 before installing the new drivers - from this experience looks as though I should?

regards
Nigel

Glad to see things worked out eventually for you.

Since you say you cleared out all the old ATI stuff, you can use CCleaner's Tools option to Delete the entries for any or all of those orphan programs.

Now, when Omega releases the newer drivers, pay very close attention to what he says in the Readme documentation. I can't speak for him. But, for many years his installation procedure has been to simply run the installation and be sure to answer, NO, to any onscreen prompts re: overwriting newer files. You need to adhere to that very, very strictly as he sometimes uses the older files when the newer ones have known issues.

But, if in doubt, do a complete uninstallation of any currently installed video drivers and the proceed with a clean installation.

Good luck!

CCleaner is a great utility, I have been using it for over a year now. When I run it, then run AdAware, there is nothing further for AdAware to find!
