Trouble to get the omega driver to work properly on my X1950XT 256mb

Hi, i just receive my Sapphire X1950XT and i hate the CCC so i decide to use the omega driver.

i have already play with those driver when i was using my 9800pro and 9600XT video card. and they worked like a charm so i wanted to give a try on my X1950 card

1 st try : install the omega driver and reboot .... this woudl always gave me the horrible "new hardware detect" pop up screen ....

2nd try. install the cat 7.1 from the cd. uninstall the CCC and install the omega driver . work but i didnt have any advanced properties, no 3d setting and it was sluggish

3rd try. unstall everything, ran DriveRcleaner. reboot. install the WDM (Cat 7.4) driver from ATI Website reboot. install the omega driver base on cat 7.4 and reboot. still getting the "new hardware detect" pop up screen ....

did i miss something???

i did a 4th try with the cat 7.1 on cd and yes i have installed the CCC and it piss me realy off but i can game untill i found a way to install the Omega driver set

anyone could help me out with this trouble and give me a clear procedure to fix this issue

Greetings and welcome to DriverHeaven!

I've used two different X1950 cards and have had no problem installing Omegadrivers on them.

However, if you can install the official CAT drivers, why not just do a Custom Installation and uncheck the option to install CCC? That way, you won't get the CCC installed. Then, just install the Ray Adam's ATI Tray Tool and, bingo, you've got a good working set of drivers. The latest 7.8 drivers seem to be doing really well for me.

Good luck!

Let me offer you something better.

As it [appears] that Omegadrivers are on hiatus, you would do yourself a favor to use the NGO Optimized Drivers for ATI cards. They are very similar to Omegadrivers, have a version with the Old CP, AND they also have the Ray Adam's ATI Tray Tool...if you so desire.

The NGO drivers will also continue to be updated whereas it appears that Omegadrivers have gone to sleep for awhile.

Get the NGO drivers here:

ATI Radeon HD2900 HD2600 HD2400 X1950 X1650 NVIDIA GeForce 8800 8600 8400 7950 7600

Just click the Files at the top of the page and navigate to the appropriate location.

Cheers!

PS As for how I got the drivers installed, it was very simple: They installed the first time without any problem. So, if you are having problems with Omega's, definitely give the NGO Drivers a chance. I think you'll be pleased.

I always let ATI Tray Tool start with Windows. It takes very LOW resources and helps me track the temps constantly. I even let it flash onscreen every few minutes during the gaming sessions.

If you always want the same AA setting, you can set it in the driver. OR, you can save game profiles and use the ATI Tray Tool to launch your game profile. It's up to you.

Does the ATI Tray Tool program properly handle the 2d vs 3d timing differences in the X1950XT? Have you verified that your sluggish performance is not because you are running at the slower 2d timings for your GPU and memory?
