Pissed Performance problems

Recently got my radeon 9700 pro. Installed the 3.2 catalyst and then the 9800 soft mod patch.

My system specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2100
512mb kingston pc2700 DDR
sound blaster live!Value!
viewsonic E70 monitor.
soltek kt-333 mobo with 1.8 bios
latest via drivers
4xagp
(anything else i forget?)

Anyways, ran the 3dmark2003 program and was getting horrible scores, 2100-2280 on average. Every game test was around 3-11fps except the beginning plane that was at 50fps.

ran 3dmark using the default driver setting 'balanced' then 'performance' and then 'quality'

they were nearly all the same, except for a slight difference in the driver settings for 'performance' but the test graphics were horrid.

Wondering if those scored are normal for a non-overclocked card, or if those are considerbly low, any ideas or ways to figure whats causing the problem/blottleneck?

Checked on 3dmarks site and saw that most ppl with my same config were getting 4500+ and on 3dmark2001 SE they were getting 13000-16000. I was getting only 8000 average.

welcome to the forum !

Did you upgrade from an nvidia card? did you properly clean the drivers etc? how old is your OS install?

have you gone through your bios? agp aperture settings, ram timings etc? what about your PSU, can you give us voltages? what drivers have you installed?

1. completely fresh OS install. (formatted the computer)
2. agp apperature size is 64mb. had it to set to 128mb, but made no difference.
3. unsure on where i check for voltages and ram timing, if you mean ram speed then its 333mhz.
4. PSU?

Sorry if im not too accurate on what you asked...new to all this

So any help on trying to fix the card? or what tweaks would be needed?
Btw, bios revision 1.8 was the only driver besides windows and the vid drivers

Make sure that AA or AF aren't enabled. In the control panel, you should set AA and AF to "Application Preference".

Other than that, I am stumped...

Don't want to alarm you or anything, but are you sure you have a 9700Pro? Was the card you got a retail one?

Figured out my problem. For some reason 3 hardware devices were using IRQ 11...when i finally managed to get my vid only on 11, the performance jumped up a bit. Guessing it may have been bottlenecked there.

Also, does ansio filtering do anything? ran unreal 2 with 16x then with 2x...looked exactly the same...or am i just blind?

yeah all they do is make the image not a rough looking but it takes up ALOT of power so you'll most likely be running lower fps and not scoring as high on the benchmarking
