My Laptop is a Dell Inspiron 8500 with Windows XP and Mobility Radeon 9000. The Inspiron has a 15.4" widescreen monitor built in and I've had no problems with screen resolution.
Through use of Dell's Docking Station technology, I've adapted it into a makeshift desktop unit. However, the Monitor I've chosen is a VideoSeven 19" Widescreen Monitor. Whenever this set up is activated, the only resolutions available are those in the 4:3 style (800x600, 1024x768 etc), and no widescreen options, including the Monitor's recommended 1440x900 resolution, are included. This means my screen looks a little squashed. According to the manual for my monitor, a small list of graphics cards officially support 1440x900, with Mobility 9000 not on it. So here's my question: is there some software solution to make a driver to allow the 1440x900 resolution with the Mobility 9000 graphics card, or will it require I get a new card? If there is a solution, could you talk me through it? I don't want to download things blindly without knowing what I'm doing. Thanks in advance. |

Hmm, sounds promising. Do you know where I can find/download it, and how I would use it?
Again, thanks in advance. |

I found solution to very similar problem. I have a pavilion zv5000 notebook with ati mobility radeon 9000/9100 agi. Got a wide screen monitor w/ resolution of 1680x1050 which was not an available selection resulting in distorted screen. ati updates available at hp did not change this and ati provided no updates for anything less than 9600.
Solution - Radeon Omega Drivers 3.8.205 (Catalyst 6.1) downloaded from http://www.driverheavendownloads.net/omegadrive.htm did not remove prior software restarted and selected correct resolution from much longer list |
