AA and AF do not work when game's in windowed or same-res-as-desktop mode.
Hey, just wanting to know what would cause this.
Basically with all ATI drivers on my current card (X1950XTX) and my previous card (X800 Pro) whenever I ran a game in windowed mode AA would not work, unless it was selected in the game menu. AF would not work regardless of the in-game settings (more specifially, Trackmania United, UT2004, and Return to Castle Wolfentstein). Windowed mode problems are the same as the full screen problems - if the full screen is the same resolution as the desktop. This wasn't a problem before because I'd just game at a different full screen resolution than the desktop. Until my monitor crapped out on me and I ended up with a flat panel. I have already fixed it - and that's to install Omega's drivers. Now my question is what is it about Omega's drivers that allow AA/AF to work when the game is in windowed mode? How would I get this to work with ATI's 7.4 drivers? |

Good questions! As I've never found it necessary and/or appealing to run in Windowed mode, I'm not sure what would be the cause of this. Hope someone has some answers for you/us.

As far as windowed mode it is near-necessary with Trackmania when downloading and trying new tracks from tm-exchange.com. If you wanted to just download and play them, that is one thing - but I like awarding the good ones and I prefer to not have to Alt+Enter each time I run through a good track. I still find it especially strange that Omega fixed whatever problem I was having with ATI's drivers... I'm starting to wonder if whatever file was causing the problem was replaced with Omega's drivers - and maybe official ATI drivers will work perfectly from here on out. I guess I'll see when 7.5s are released.

Well, 7.5s are out and they produce the same results.
Game res same as desktop: http://www.crawspace.com/ss/errors/a...eansnoAF01.jpg And then changing the res produces: http://www.crawspace.com/ss/errors/a...eansnoAF02.jpg Notice that now AF is working, AA decides to stop. PLEASE Omega release new ATI drivers.

2.0 according to Add/Remove Programs.
Also I notice 1.1 and the 1.1 hotfix are still in there - would reinstalling it (or updating to 3.0) fix it you think? EDIT: Actually that is starting to make more sense, as I actually bought Drivercleaner expecting it to fix the problem - and it didn't. |

I uninstalled 1.1 and the hotfix, now Windows Update is telling me that I need to install 1.1 again. Everything seems to be working fine (except for the previously reported problem of course)....
I'm going to download 3.0 anyway and see if that makes a difference. |

Made no difference.
I uninstalled all .NET framework, and ATI drivers and reinstalled the drivers, and installed ATI Tray Tools in lieu of the Catalyst Control Center Still no difference. This is extremely annoying. I can ALT-TAB out of the game, disable and re-enable AF and it works, but only for that session. |

Probably the fact that Omega uses ATI Tray Tools (IIRC?) which maybe forces AA/AF on differently? I don't honestly know but that'd be my best guess.
Or its something in his INI files or other modifications he's done... which would explain why ATT instead of CCC with stock Catalyst drivers isn't working. |

I don't think it has anything to do with the tray tools... It might however be the Control Panel is somehow more effective in enabling the settings.
Apparently a lot of people are having this problem, but not very many even notice because they don't even know what AF is much less what it does. http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33892128 |

I have the very same issue, although AA/AF does work for me in windowed mode. Just not when game resolution is same as desktop. Although if i play in teh same resoltion, but in 16bit, then it apperantly works.
I´m reporting this in the other thread where the ati-guys seem more active hoping they decide to take care of it. Would be happy if you crawdaddy could mention yourself in that thread aswell. |

anyway are you trying to force AA on throught the CCC? It is a known problem with TDU (the game in your screenshots) that if you turn on AA in the CCC it won't work. You have to set it to Application Controlled and you have to turn the AA on in TDU. It might be the same with TrackMania United i don't know Here is the original thread with the info http://forums.eu.atari.com/showthread.php?t=60374 Cube623.

I appreciate your response very much.
It's not a game-specific thing. It's a 3D appication thing. More screens ![]() AF never works regardless of in-game settings. AA works only when in-game settings have it enabled - except for TDU for whatever reason (for instance in the case of UT2004, AA does not work when forced in the CCC, as there is no in-game setting for it). http://www.crawspace.com/ss/errors/a...eansnoAF03.jpg http://www.crawspace.com/ss/errors/a...eansnoAF04.jpg My settings: ![]()
