i asked eric in ati about this for you. this is what he said

There is no currently available program from ATI or any other source that can read the GPU die temperature. You would need to attach a thermal sensor directly to the HS, as close to the center as possible, if you want to do this. If you use a sensor and a tiny dab of thermal compound, it should not affect warranty - The biggest item is that you need to be able to clean it up afterwards and make it look new. If ATI receives a board that has compound visible on it or has any visible trauma, the warranty will be void.

Thanx for going out of your way to find this out for me, but i think i already voided the warranty by putting on that stage 1 oc systems heatsink (http://www.ocsystem.com/ocsystem/ocati90vidca.html)

Then you can just attach a temp probe to it. Possibly if you have a spare MB one, you can use that, so any MB monitor could be used.
