Newer Catalyst for Older Cards
It seems as the drivers come out newer and newer, older and older cards start to lose support. As of now, I'm using NGO 1.6.6 on my Radeon X800XL AGP 256 MB.
I'm not too sure if I should be updating my drivers. Which drivers seem to be the best for this card?

Catalyst 6.11 works very well with my X800 Pro and X800 XT cards. I would not hesitate to use that version with the CONTROL PANEL from NGO instead of the Catalyst Control Center:

7.x not so good yet.
Best of luck.

I'm no longer using my previous X800XL AGP card (it's in my daughter-in-law's rig now) so I can't test the newer drivers. However, the only cards no longer supported by the current drivers are DX8 cards....those prior to the 95xx series.
I'd say it's wise to test the newer drivers and be prepared to revert to earlier sets if not satisfied.

For older cards, the only things of note are probably going to be the odd game bugfix, and possibly improvements in CCC.
All the DX9 cards (from the 9500 and upwards) appear to be supported in current (7.3) versions, while even the oldest Radeon (9250 & below) has support in the special 6.11 version http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/x...rer300-xp.html - though what these drivers would bring to an original Radeon, VE or 7000 is anyone's guess.

6.3 worked fine, then something broke in 6.4-6.10 on my X800 series cards. But then 6.11 actually fixed the issues and things were back on track. All my old and new games worked fine again, with one minor exception, and I accepted the limitation because I didn't really play that game much any more, even though it was a fantastic game back in the day.
I have not has as good of luck with any release after 6.11 on Win XP Home or Pro, so 6.11 I stick with - at least for now.
You mention a "Special Version" of 6.11 - I thought there was only one version? Could you enlighten me a bit? Thanks

The "special release", as I pointed to, is for the DX8 and earlier cards, where support had been dropped from 6.6 (if I recall). It is not appropriate for the 9500 to 9800 models, or any X-series cards. But is the newest driver for really old cards and marks the point and card models where you can no longer update to current drivers.

So there are two physically separate, unique driver downloads?
If I might impose, would you be so kind as to post a link to each of the two so that I can download them both for archival purposes? I'd just like to have a copy of each on CD for my own edification.
Thanks much,
DB
